Pre-Sequel explains events before BL2 (hence the name) but you will understand more after finishing BL2 anyway.
You may also need to play (I'd rather recommend watching, though) Tales From The Borderlands (the original Telltale one) to understand who Vaughn and Rhys are in Lilith DLC and BL3.
Basically,
Entire chronological order:
BL1 + DLC -> Pre-Sequel + DLC -> BL2 + Base DLC -> Tales -> BL2 Lilith DLC -> BL3 + DLC
Preferable / recommended order:
BL2 + Base DLC -> Pre-Sequel + DLC -> Tales -> BL2 Lilith DLC -> BL3 + DLC
whew
Well... after everything else in BL2 and BL:TPS. And if you REALLY want to avoid spoilers, then play the Tales From the Borderlands games first too.
Borderlands one is chronologically first.
Borderlands two is chronologically second.
BL:TPS is chronologically third, but it tells of events that occurred prior to BL2. Hence the name: "Pre-Sequel".
The Tales From the Borderlands games fall in here fourth.
The Commander Lilith DLC is fifth chronologically.
There are no other games after that, that was the last thing in the series.
Personally, I'd suggest starting with BL2 and seeing if you like the franchise. If you do, try BL:TPS and BL1 (but do be aware, BL1 is a lot more primitive than the two later games).
Yeah, yeah, I know they made two other games. Nominally I hear the game play was good, but since the stories sucked, and since they practiced a consumer-unfriendly exclusive with the Epic store I have zero interest in either BL3 or Tiny Tina's Wonderland.
