Sand Hawk
I thought some of you might be interested in the chances of getting the various Sand Hawk parts, so I got 500 of them. Here are the results:

Prefixes:

Bladed (+50% melee damage) 4%
Deft (Higher accuracy) 5%
Flying (Faster bullets and fire rate) 5%
Skirmish (Faster reload and larger magazine) 4%
Stoic (Higher stability) 4%
Stopping (Higher damage) 4%

Elements:

None 68%
Corrosive 7%
Fire 8%
Shock 8%
Slag 9%

Grips:

Bandit (Larger magazine, lower accuracy and slower reload) 18%
Dahl (Faster reload, larger magazine and lower damage) 22%
Hyperion (Higher accuracy and lower damage) 21%
Maliwan (Higher elemental effect chance) 19%
Tediore (Faster reload, lower damage and smaller magazine) 20%

Stocks:

Bandit 20%
Dahl (4 round burst) 22%
Hyperion 19%
Maliwan 18%
Tediore 22%

Number of times I fell down the elevator shaft: 1

You can use this to determine the probability of getting a specific version. For example, a Flying Shock Sand Hawk with Dahl grip and Dahl stock is about 0.017%, or about 1 in 6,000.

For those that are new to the Sand Hawk:

The Sand Hawk is probably the best gun to use with the bee shield and possibly even the best SMG without the bee shield. This is because it fires seven shots at a time and each shot gets the full amp damage from the bee shield. Because of this, many people have spent a lot of time trying to get the best or least very good versions of it.

The biggest problem with the Sand Hawk is that its bullets move very slowly, making even medium range shots on moving targets difficult. So most people argue (and I agree) that the flying prefix is the best because it improves the biggest weakness. With the faster bullets and fire rate, you will probably do more damage than with the stopping prefix. The improvements with the other prefixes are not very noticeable.

Ideally, you would have one of each element. If you could only have one, shock would probably be best since very few enemies are resistant to it. While corrosive and fire are great against armor and flesh, there are many enemies that will be resistant. So a non-elemental version is fine. Slag isn’t great because this will probably be your main damage gun. If you want to slag, there are much better options.

The Dahl grip is the best because the reload speed is much faster and the lower damage is not very noticeable, especially with the bee shield. Maliwan grip is useless if you don’t have an elemental gun, and even if you do, the increase is only 15% (from 10% to 11.5%). The grip is probably the least important part of the Sand Hawk, so if you get a good one that doesn’t have a Dahl grip, you should be happy with it.

The Sand Hawk normally has a three round burst, but a Dahl stock adds a fourth round. This easily makes it the best stock and I don’t even know what the other stocks do, if anything. Combined with the fact that the chance of getting a Dahl stock is fairly good, I passed on any Sand Hawks that didn’t have a Dahl stock. It’s that big of an improvement, in my opinion.

I didn’t collect data on sights because that is mostly personal preference. Unlike Captain Blade’s Rapier, the Sand Hawk comes with a good variety of sights.

Hi, thanks a lot for your time to gather all the information.
I did a similar test a long time ago (1k tries) to try to get a perfect (flying, full dahl) elemental sandhawk but did not collect the results so thoroughly. My results were however very close to yours : grips and stocks were equally probable, specific prefix was around 5% and specific element was around 6%.
Have you done a similar test on the fibber ?

Did you get what you were looking for? The best ones I got were a non-elemental flying dahl/dahl and a corrosive flying maliwan/dahl. I've only done this with the Sand Hawk and Captain Blade's Rapier. Fibber sounds interesting though.

About the same for me, i got 2 or 3 flying full dahl non elemental and 1 stopping full dahl fire one, if i remember correctly.
Re the fibber, i did not record my results but i think they looked like the ones mentionned here : https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/vault-hunting-101-a-guide-to-rng-and-loot/1153869#Farm

I missed your thread on the rapier : thanks for that too :)
From these 3 weapons, it looks like :
- grip, stock and barrel (for the fibber) are equally probable
- elements have a 25% spawn chance, each element being equally probable
- prefix have a 25%, each prefix being equally probable
As i could not find the number of tries for the rapier, i'm inclined to think the differences in probability between prefixes might come from a small sample. What's your opinion ?
DAYNJA Aug 20, 2016 @ 12:15am
Yes, I agree that where the numbers are close, the actual probabilities are most likely the same. The Rapier takes five times as long (2.5 minutes vs 32 seconds for the Sand Hawk) so I only did 112 of them. So I also agree that my prefix numbers for the Rapier are probably off and that they are all equally probable. When I was doing the Sand Hawk I noticed that in my first 300, I only had 3 bladed ones, which was significantly lower than the other prefixes. Then in the last 200 I got 17 of them.

I mentioned this briefly in both threads, but one thing that is clearly different is the sight. The Rapier is commonly found with iron sights. I don't think this is specific to rifles. I still can't tell the difference between sights, so i didn't bother tracking that.

It's nice to know the community isn't completely toxic, and that there are good people out there. Thanks for putting time into the research by the way

TBH i have never paid any attention to the sight.
Thanks again for your time and willingness to share your results.
