how do you heal in this game?

I don't think you can heal, the only I know is phaselock with skill from harmony (if that's called) on Maya
or steal health grenades.

Also Gaige has heal over time when mag is full.

There's no "heal button". However you can:

Pick up or buy Healing Hypos.
Unlock skills that can get you health in various ways and through various means.
Get a Class Mod that heals you or have a player with one that heals the whole team.
Use weapons, grenades or shields that can steal or drop health.

If you mean reviving allies, then you hold down E or whatever you action key is bound whilst really close to your ally to revive them. Or you can get something like or Maya's skills that allows you to use your F abillity to preform a ranged revive.

You can heal at Zed vendors and with heal pickups. For the rest it's about having certain classes that can heal others (Maya), lifesteal (Krieg), health regen (Salvador). Those are just examples, each classes can have decent survivability depending what gear and perks you choose.

All Moxi weapons heal you according to the damage they inflict,some more then others.The grog nozzle is top of the tree followed by the Rubi pistol.

At low levels, it depends on your character.

Any character can buy health syringes at a Dr. Zed machine.
Starting at around level 8-10, you'll be able to get Class Mods. Most classes have one that gives a slow trickle of healing, not enough for healing IN combat, but enough to get you back to full outside of combat.

Maya gets the Nurse mod.
Axton gets the Pointman mod.
Salvador gets the Titan mod.
Zer0 gets the Survivor mod.
Krieg gets the Meat mod.

Gaige does not have a health regen class mod.

Many of the characters have a healing skill they can take at low levels.

Axton gets Preparation.
Maya gets Sweet Release.
Gaige gets Cooking Up Trouble.
Salvador gets Hard To Kill.

Zer0 and Krieg do not have health regen skills at lower levels.

At higher levels one can obtain weapons from Moxxi, the bartender in Sanctuary. She generally only provides weapons as rewards for quests. All "Moxxi" weapons will heal you for a certain percentage of the damage you deal.

The most easily obtained weapon in this category is Rubi. Rubi can be acquired by doing the quest Rakkaholics Anonymous (and choosing to turn in to Moxxi). There are others, Rubi is just the easiest to get and is the 2nd strongest healing weapon in the game.

At high levels, during Co-op play, you may be able to group up with a Siren player. Maya the Siren can be spec'd in a support role, in which she's a fairly strong healer. Be aware that this is not the common soloing spec, and if you want your Siren player to heal, be sure to communicate what you expect, because they may have had other ideas.
