Depends on your play style. Axton is good to start with i would say. And if you want to play with friends and like support, Maya has some great support skills.

Maya is good for solo/team play
Zer0 is fun in a melee build, B0re takes all the fun out of the game when it comes to bosses, but is definately very strong
Gaige is interesting with the anarchy stacks
Krieg is very fun with many different playstyles
Salv is very easy, hit action skill, hold both triggers, everything dies
axton never really interested me much, but ive seen some very impressive explosive damage from people who do play him

my 2 main players are zer0 & maya, i like maya for how versitile she is, breakneck banshee, beehawk, trickster, different setups all in one spec
and zer0 is very fun oneshotting badasses with a melee kill that you feel you had to work for, it's all personal preferance, i see a lot of salvs being played, dnno if this is because how easy he is to play, or because he is basically godmode in op8 stages

Number one is Gunzerk for power level. a lot of raid bosses and things ae balanced around his damage/survivability.

Don't go for "who's the best" seriously all of them are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great, to me Salv is broken (ATOMIC DPS) so I don't like him. Maya is really good (solo and group). Krieg is my favorite because you can do everything a bit, I like jumping in the boss and slash him with the axe :)

I don't like overpowered characters like Salv, what is the fun in just destroy everything that comes in your way without dificulty?

well i now i dont like snipers so no zer0
i already had sentry in BL1 so no axton
gaige looks boring to me cause i saw a vid from youtube and all that deathtrap does is taking half of the health from the enemie away and you kill them entirely

and i dont want to repeat the story over and over again and thats why i dont want to try everyone out

Enh.. it's an FPS-ARPG, there's a lot repetition.

Krieg is pretty Melee focused, I can't really say much about him as I don't personally like Melee.

Salvador dualweilds guns. Some people like him, some say he's over powered. I can't really speak to that either.

Maya I like. Maya is about control, she also can fuction as support in co-op play.
