I usually start TVHM at level 41+ this way when i finish it i'm 50 and ready for UVHM , because if you go UVHM before 50 it's a suicide.
- The DLCs scale to the level you start them at. So if you start the Christmas DLC at level 42, then finish it at level 50, the reward will be level 42.
- In the main game, side missions "level up" as the game progresses, assuming you haven't started them yet. For example, you CAN get the Firehawk quests at level 35, but if you wait to talk to Lilith until level 50, you'll have a level 50 Firehawk shield.
I personally recommend skipping all the "junky" missions, and doing the DLC whenever you want so it doesn't get stale. For example, if you don't really want to do the Bloodshot Stronghold again, take a break and do Tiny Tina's DLC, which should get you several level-ups, so you can breeze through the Bloodshot Stronghold.
You should move on to TVHM.
The issue here is UVHM. If you intend to play in UVHM, then you want to start that at level 50. Exactly level 50. The reason for this is because enemies scale WITH you in UVHM. They're always your level. Your weapons do not scale. That means every time you level, your weapons get weaker. Gear obsolescence is far more aggressive in UVHM. The highest level of gear you can obtain in TVHM is going to be level 50.
Since you're already level 39, that leaves you only 11 levels left to complete the main story in TVHM (which you must do in order to unlock UVHM).
So my advice is do NOT do any more DLC. Move right on to TVHM.
Don't do any side quests in TVHM either, just do the main story. After you've completed that, if you're still not level 50, THEN you can do some side quests, but you're already cutting it close.
The thing you need to understand is, this game has way, way more content than is needed to get you through any given game difficulty. You CANNOT do all content and remain in the correct level range. On the other hand, you'll have plenty of time in UVHM to do everything.
Rushing 1st playthru is kind of what I recommend, but you also kinda need to balance being ok-geared for that... so rushing isn't maybe the best term lol.
But basically save the side stuff if you're wanting to playthru it again, makes it vastly more interesting. Boss drop farming included.
Yeah lol he's right. Even lv72 sometimes you will be struggle without right weapon or with right weapon
