How long is the main story?

Im 10 hours in and i'm on chapter 16 i've just been doing the main story

Is it suposed to be this short the main story seems surprising 10hrs is not that much to be so far into the story i will of course go back and do side quests after etc

When you add in all the side quests, it's more like 35-40 hours.

Dude 10 hours is actually really good for a main campain. Btw it doesnt take ten hours unless your rushing. It takes more like 20 to 30 if you take your time.

19 chapters (main quests), and over 100 side quests...
you can't say the game is short if you're skipping most of it...

also it all depends on your play style.. on one of the characters i took my time exploring everything, doing every single challenge, looking for every loot chest.. it's still level 57 with around 245 hours clocked on it

Don't forget TVHM and UVHM!

If you have appropriate lvl (UVH is good example) and really rush for it, you can finish main story in like 5-7 hrs, i think.

If you are UVHM though... It takes about 20+ hours. Since all of the enemies are 2 levels higher than you it makes it a challenge.

When you rush at normal or even TVH, all opponents will lv-up much faster and you just wont catch up with story quests and mobs. (not mentioning gear)
At UVH you dont need upgrades allready. You skip large areas, taking only 'must' encounters, and with spd'n'tanky builds it lets you skip 3/4 of each area without a shot.

But ep, theres a catch ofc - you need good equipement, not great, but blue/purple.

why rush through a great story and well built maps?

When UVH was allready here but BGH and, m-be, Torgue Carnage weren't, i wanted to get Legendary class mods, but Vermivorous just refused to show his face (never saw it in 1K hrs played and alot of time spent summoning one with and without team), and i decided to reap some LLMs, so i restarted story and rushed to preserve. I thought it will be lengthy, but it was allmost instant.
From preserve to Warior i rushed with other char on TVH cause my level hit 50 an i didnt want overlevel too much for UVH, so i rushed, and it was extremely fast too.

Assuming you want to go through the story as quick as you can, I'd say maybe 8-10 hours tops. But if you do all the side stuff, you'll have likely doubled your play time. That playtime is also triple thanks to the two harder difficulty levels, and is increased even more by the DLC campaigns.
