Axton with nukey turret, I just enjoy tossing a nuke turret in a middle of enemy group. Althought slag is more useful.
Krieg with flame of firehawk shield, I literally just walk around and enemy got burned.
That's what I prefer.
I like her ability to control the battlefield, I like the ability to slag almost everything in sight, and I like her (generally) low key attitude.
Axton and Gaige are fun too.
The choice depends a lot on whether you usually play solo or coop. There are certain classes that don't play too well in coop like Gaige cause Deathtrap blocks team mates' ability to target enemies and Axton's Turret can have the same effect. I've developed all six classes since starting BL2 in 2013 but Zer0 and Maya are the only ones I enjoyed enough in solo and coop to take all the way to level 80 / OP8.
1) Zer0: The squishiest class in the game with the highest learning curve. Insanely effective and can make a complete mockery of the game. Best Sniper and best melee character in the game. Most exciting and involved gameplay. Raid boss killer and speaks in sweet sweet haikus. You will feel sad in multiplayer when you realise that the only times you die are when you stop moving to res your friends. Some people will tell you that sniping is not as effective as melee. These people do not know what they are talking about. B0re is the best game-changing skill in the game.
2) Maya: Quite durable, and the best co-op class. Can heal self/team-mates. Can Res teammates. Best crowd control and support. However, is not necessarily a support class, and can be built to have an insanely potent damage output. Second best sniper in the game. Can sort of also be built to play as a melee character (but not extremely effectively). You'll be the belle of the ball and everyone will want to be your friend. Some people may try and seduce you into using Thoughtlock. Beware of these people.
3) Gaige: Special ability is hot garbage. Deathtrap's AI is idiotic; he will aggro excess enemies, steal second wind kills from teammates, get in the way and block line of sight, or sometimes spazz out and do nothing. Is only semi useful for tanking when solo, and shooting at surveyors. Most abilities that you can assign to him are a waste of points as he will never ever be able to outdps you, so might as well invest in abilities that improve yourself. Anarchy-centric build is awesome and extremely powerful; only caveat is that you have to be careful when you reload, or to not die and lose stacks. You will lose stacks a lot in team games, and you will feel sad. Your friends may also complain if you want to stack up on the dummy in sanctuary. Do not discount the Little Big Trouble Tree. Will never shut up. Will wish make you wish that you were deaf. Still pretty fun.
4) Krieg: High learning curve. Can be insanely durable and also have insane damage output through Bloodsplosion. Has some of the most obtuse (and fun) mechanics. Some are counter-intuitive and you must get used to them. Great with explosive damage. Second best melee character in the game. Can also insta-res friends, but at the cost of his own life. Can also transform into a giant hulking mongoloid. Can also make a mockery of raid bosses with Bloodsplosion.
5) Axton: Most balanced character with a small learning curve. Jack of all trades, yet master of none. Can have insane durability through True Grit. Does not excel at anything at particular, yet isn't bad at anything in particular. Decent damage output. Second most boring class to play. I suspect that accountants (or people who love making powerpoint presentations) love to play him. Also great with explosive damage.
6) Salvador: Durable, and high damage output. Most broken and overpowered character with virtually no learning curve. Most boring character to play (even more than Axton). Insane damage output that rivals Zer0's. People with two digit IQs love him. People may be so wary of you in multiplayer that you'll wonder if it's because you didn't shower that day.
Hope this helps.
