Geary's Golden Gear Troubles [Resolved]

I'm new to Borderlands 2.

I'd read about this quest online, and it sounded like fun. I just entered the Eridium Blight, then went to Claptrap's, it was there.. I picked it up, and it disappeared from my inventory with no quest activating. Accourding to the Wiki, if you fail it, it'll respawn back at the fireplace.

It's not there.

I tried fast traveling to see if I could intentionally fail the quest and make it respawn, but it still wasn't there. I tried restarting my game, still not there. I tried dying on purpose and lost a good couple hours worth of cash, not there.

Is the Wiki wrong? Do you only get one shot? Did my game glitch up and I have it still in my inventory, despite doing everything I could to intentionally fail it?

There is no "quest", you pick it up, get there with no fast travel or vehicle, get smacked, get loot.

Yeah, I know, but like I said I did everything I could to intentionally fail it after grabbing it and it didn't respawn like the Wiki said it would.

Save/Quit, then go back in and it should be there.

edit: You ARE on TVHM or UVHM, right?

Like I said, I tried that.

I don't even know what that is. Like I said, I'm new. It was in the fireplace like the Wiki said, but everything I've done to make it respawn hasn't worked.

I guess I should add that all I want is the Fragger hat from Geary, I don't even intend to finish the quest properly, I just assumed he wouldn't spawn unless I had the gear on me.

TVHM = True Vault Hunter Mode, when you beat the final boss it unlocks that and you play through again at higher difficulty, UVHM = Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode that is unlocked when you kill the final boss on TVHM. Geary's gear does not work on first play through.

Oh. It spawned though.. weird that it would give me the quest item, but not let me actually do the quest until I'd finished the game at least once, and not even tell me about it.

You can get heads from him without the gear, go kill him and he should drop a head, just no loot crates.

A tutorial on how to do it is irrelevant when my problem isn't how to do it, but how to make it spawn.

BTW, it spawned again randomly after me killing Geary for all of the hats that silly little man was worth, so I'mma go do it.

Restart the character in TVHM or UVHM, go and pick up the gear from Claptrap's fireplace, and then go to Eridium Blight. Do not use any fast travel stations, or spawn and teleport to a vehicle. I think you can actually use a vehicle, but you have to enter it manually, not teleport to it.
When you finally encounter Geary, let him hit you. He will then jump onto the lava, and the three rakk bearing loot chests will fly in - journey complete. Do not kill Geary or rush past him to loot the single chest - that will break the whole thing. No rakk bearing loot chests will appear.

If nothing happens at the end, and this can happen for unknown reasons, even if you have followed the rules, you will have to save and exit, and then re-select the character and pick up the gear all over again. I don't know why it sometimes fails, but it does happen.

Doing the whole journey on foot chatting and occasionally shooting stuff is a fun and pleasant way to spend some time on Pandora with friends.

I know how to do it! The problem was never HOW to do it, it was only making the gear spawn again after a botched attempt, and it's already spawned again on its own by now, despite me never having beaten the game before!

Please ignore the thread now, I appreciate the help but knowing how to do the mission itself was never the issue to begin with!

If you have never killed the Warrior and you are trying to do this then no you do not know how it is done. That is only for True Vault Hunter mode (you kill the warrior and when you next play select True Vault Hunter mode.) or Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (the third play through). It was never meant to work on first play through, the fact you can pick up the gear at all is a glitch. Good luck on getting the loot, not saying it can't happen but it should not.
