Melee Krieg is also insanely fun because you basically never die and insta-kill everything when you get some skills lol
Welcome back to Pandora :)
Krieg: Absurdly high DPS, oh and he has melee instead if that's more your thing, I play Krieg without ever using melee or his action skill. Biggest weakness is that his kill skills require specific methods to proc, most notably Blood Bath relies on a grenade kill and Fuel the Blood relies on a melee kill. This can be even more detrimental in boss fights.
Zer0: Tricky to play, and forces you to be innovative with your gameplay. Unmatched crit damage. The one let down is ironically melee, it requires too much setup (at OP10) and gets tedious after a while.
Axton: Nice all-rounder, better grenade boosting than Krieg, allowing you to use all sorts of grenades for damage instead of just considering it a utility slot all the time. Axton's biggest let down is that his turret is a support tool at the highest level (OP10), it's not bad just leaves a little to be desired.
Salvador: Two guns, twice the fun. Downside is he is objectively overpowered (and no that's not even counting his glitches), it's nice if you just want to shred everything, but it can be a little tiresome after a while.
Gaige: Highest damage of all... at the cost of accuracy. The playstyle gets repetitive, because of the over-reliance on close to mid range weapons. Not using Anarchy makes Gaige have very mediocre damage, so that is not an option.
Maya: Easiest character for mobbing, it's fun to just endlessly cc and debuff enemies. Best healing in the game. Sad thing about Maya is that her gun DPS is just meh at OP10. I could use Legendary Cat and lock myself to one gun type for awesome damage, but that's just boring.
As another great fan of soloing BL2 with 1,000's of hours invested in savoring all six playable characters, recommending a single one can be a tough choice and much depends on your own "risk/reward profile" meaning ~~~ what exactly it is in a great PC gaming experience you're looking for and the risks you're comfortable taking in order to excel in that game.
That said ~~~ if you're a more casual fan of great ARPG's like BL2, I'd recommend Maya the Siren. If you're a more serious & inventive gamer with a good head on your shoulders, I'd go with Zer0 the Assassin.
Each in its own way is immensely brilliant solo fun on PC. Enjoy!
you forgot about deathtrap. like maya, gaige is great for mobbing if you choose to focus on summoner gameplay with deathtrap (with gaige and her anarchy as great support, whether its low or high anarchy stacks), especially if you use the right types of shield for deathtrap's sharing is caring skill according to the situations. sadly DT just switch to his weak basic ranged attack when fighting most bosses (and all raidbosses), reducing his usefulness against them except as distraction or occasional shield boost from buck up (maybe DT's Sharing is Caring can be configured to be useful against certain bosses and even raidbosses, again, depending on the shield and situation).
ironically, gaige is the smartest vault hunter in b2 (scientifically with unofficial engineer major certificate), yet her playstyle without focusing on dt (high anarchy reckless dps-er gameplay) is the dumbest gameplay for when you're too lazy to think about accuracy and whatnot, just run around and spray and pray because gaige's already taken care of all them gun-ballistic math calculations for us unintelligent players. still, you do need low mag size and fast reload guns to quickly build up all them anarchy stacks in combat (1-shot jakob shotguns are preferable), so you can't be 100% lazy when doing lazy gaige gameplay.
From the sound of things you are wanting ideas for your second character, and that you will be playing them solo. So, which character(s) have you played already? How far did you get with them? Lots of things to consider before setting off on the journey. Your gameplay preferences, aims for the game etc etc etc. Suggestions as to which character should be better informed after asking a bit more than 'who is your bestest vault hunter bud?
So, in my case, covering the first three games and ignoring BL3 as I haven't played it for numerous reasons, these 16 characters are my preferred order for characters.
For the top 3 :
Maya
Lilith
Gaige
My most played character, Owns Borderlands, is just huge fun respectively.
Bottom 3 @ 14, 15. 16.
Doppleganger
Brick
Krieg.
never actually played him. Just didn't appeal and I ran out of TPS playing time. Done.
Brick and Krieg because I don't like melee characters. Really don't like melee characters, although melee Zer0 can be great fun.
Top 10, Willhelm, Athena, Axton, Aurelia, Salvador, Roland, Mordecai
the rest are whoever is left.
My #1 Maya has over 3K5 hours of gameplay alone. I have over 20 assorted Mayas with different builds, loadouts etc.
For BL1, I like Lilith and Mordecai. Probably about equally.
Not too interested in Roland, he's "okay" but I liked the others better.
No interest at all in Brick, I don't care for melee either.
For BL2, I like Maya, and to a lesser extent, Gaige and Axton.
I'm not really good enough to play Zer0, although he's interesting.
Salvador just doesn't work for me (because I have weird keybinding settings and remapping them (and relearning them) just to play Sal doesn't seem worth it to me).
Krieg ... too weird, too melee.
For BL:TPS, I like Nisha, Wilhelm and Athena (despite the melee).
Nisha is a Sal I can actually play. Wilhelm is the best elements of Axton and Gaige all rolled into one, with Lasers! Athena is the canon character, and I'm a sucker for playing the canon character.
Claptrap is just too weird for me.
Timmothy (the Doppelgänger) just ... doesn't appeal. His character design feels like too much of a disconnect, he's supposed to be this meek student who gave up his own identity and life just to pay off his student loans ... AND at the same time be a fearless Vault Hunter, fighting perilous enemies from beyond man's ken? No, sorry, just doesn't work for me.
Aurelia felt like too much of an afterthought in terms of how she fits into the story.
I too have never played BL3 and probably won't. Though I probably will spend more time with the first three.
Personally I didn't quite enjoy the stealth as a solo player in BL2. Maya always felt a bit safer and generally more useful as a solo player. Also it's kinda broken on Normal difficulty once you skill the poison cloud on her action skill.
i like salvador for soloing raidbosses .... it's fun and it's higly broken. even on the glitched op10 enemies he schreds everything in no time
salvador was the most op class. and also the lamest imo because his skill is literally just dual wielding guns. its like +stats instead of interesting skill gimmick like the others have.
even so, salvador was quite possibly the most popular mascot of b2 vault hunters alongside maya. but for some reason gearbox throw him into obscurity in b3...
