The UCP is also an option, but it doesn’t drastically change the game, just buffing a couple of gear here and there and adding some QoL improvements
If you just want a standalone UVHM rebalance then try this mod: https://github.com/BLCM/BLCMods/tree/master/Borderlands%202%20mods/Nifsara/UVHM%20Rebalance
I’ve never used it but the changelog states a lot about it rebalancing enemy HP and slag.
I was one of the people on the Gearbox forums who absolutely hated UVHM and the direction they took the game and the developers explained it very well why they took it in the direction they did. It essentially revolved around the fact they introduced this new mechanic (slag) that they were all extremely hyped about only to find a small fraction of the playerbase actually used it reliably. Considering how easy normal and TVHM are, there really isn't a need for slag unless you're trying to speedrun through the main quests, so they forced it upon us with UVHM. I'm not the type who enjoys being forced down a specific path just to play the game, so I normally just take a character through 2.5 and the DLCs, then call it good and start a new one.
However, I do plan on taking all my old OP8 characters to OP10 just to do it, but that's a while down the road. There was rumor of a mod that reduced enemy armor/health for UVHM, but I honestly don't know what happened to that mod. I know Gearbox banned him from the official forums and he posted on here for a bit, but it was still a WIP so I didn't follow it too closely. For all I know, it's been out somewhere, but you might have to do some digging to find it (if it exists).
As for your questions...
1. Just think of them as free second chances. Keep a decent slag E-Tech on switch and maybe a decent elemental rocket launcher to get back into the fight almost instantly.
2. Slag. Slag everything. First thing you should be doing in every encounter in UVHM is slagging everything in your field of vision. Usually a high damage elemental along with slag to start the fight just to help tick Midgemong's health down as you chase him around.
