the writer, Anthony Burch, for some unknown reason, made Bloodwing female.
But yeah, they forgot about it and accidentally change bloodwings gender, not that it matters much as it is a fictional bird with no sexual identifiers to begin with - its an alien murder bird.
They messed up - as it happens quite often, and tried to retcon it (badly).
Some marine fish on Earth are capable of changing sex, so why not an avian on another planet?
(and a lot of information is now also hidden/deleted cause of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ eu-laws for "right to be forgotten" )
you know, like they do in movies, tv, stage, etc.
so there's a certain consistency to the Story / Cast / Location, etc.
it is what it is.
