Normal is capped at 35-ish on some of the DLC's.
Gaining xp in normal will slow down after a certain point because the enemies are so low level compared to you, but there is no mechanism that will stop you gaining xp.
You will not be able to complete all of the DLC's in normal or TVHM without going well over the recommended level 50 for starting UVHM.
However, once you are in UVHM there is nothing stopping you going back to normal or TVHM and filling in content for the story / achievements / whatever if you want to. The xp from this will be very low and should not affect your progress in UVHM much.
Because of the amount of content, you have to restrict which DLC's you start in TVHM. I generally do Tina's with all characters, Torgue too for easy Torgue tokens later on when your characters are in UVHM - bar room brawls in TVHM are much easier :)
The others depend on their being useful gear for that character - Hammerlock's for the Rough Rider e.g. Scarlett's for the Rapier for melee characters etc etc.
If you want to restrict the game to level 50, just disable both of the Vault Hunter Upgrade Packs. If you have Lilith's with the 8 new levels, you will need to disable this as well. You can now do as much as you want in TVHM for story / achievements etc without going over 50.
Enable the DLC's again when you want to progress in UVHM.
I reccomend trying to be around lvl 50 when ending TVHM, then after warrior kill do some read-only farming in TVHM. That way you don't get the XP from 10+ kills from lets say Savage Lee to get a Harold, and so on.
Some notable weapons to get to help you in UVHM are:
- Unkempt Harold (boring)
- Rubi with slag element for slagging and healing (Can get in normal mode tbh)
- Storm Front grenade with low fuse
- Blockhead from Minecraft easter egg
- Fastball grenade
- Lyuda sniper rifle
- Pimpernell sniper rifle (Scarlett DLC)
There are many others ofc, but these are pretty easy to farm and are very solid on most characters. Other than that, slag everything and take your time getting used to UVHM, and have fun!
It would seem you just want to play the story but not have it be too easy - for that you could play the game in TVHM and disable the level-up-DLCs. That way you and the enemies are basically stuck at 50.
