Fabled Tortoise....is it supposed to make you invincible?
Cuz dang, its made me basically invincible. I hated how normally, no matter how good our shield is, were basically 2-3 shot like its COD. Explosives and status effects will burn us to the ground full to fkin dead...or, thats been whats happened to me. Get hit by fire, slag, corrosive, shock, doesnt matter.....I get status'd, I will burn from full to fkin dead everytime. In the rare case the status wears off JUST before im dead, some stray bullet puts me into FFYL mode, so im dead anyway(Yes I know you can revive by getting a kill).

However, I farmed this Fabled Tortoise and now im basically invincible. Where before status would burn me to the ground, now I can basically go swimming in the Caustic Cavern's acid pool and take barely any damage. I can dance on the bombs around Tiny Tina's hut and take 200 dmg. I an absolutely face tank a whole dungeon of enemies(more or less), and not even care.

Only occasionally and for reasons I have no idea why, the shield will just suddenly strip, full to gone and then I get downed usually.....why is that!? Though for the most part, this shield has made the game almost to easy, as nothing is a threat now. I wanted to be a little tougher, not god mode haha. Normal shield has like 500...1200....12,000....Fabled Tortoise gets like 180,000.....lol wut....

It's for Badass rank and it's an Easter egg that references Dark Souls.

The Fabled Tortoise is OK early game. You do get a LOT of shield. Movement speed is horrible and your health is low, but it can work.
The thing is marginal in UVHM and basically broken in the OP levels. Broken in the sense that the health reduction is way more than your character's actual health. It leaves you with shield in the many millions, and health of either 0 or 1. Your health is actually negative a few million, but the game doesn't like that so rounds it up to 0 or 1.
These 3 screenshots are of the first new OP variant I found.
1st is the shield on the ground
2nd in more detail
3rd is it in use with Maya (Ward is maxxed, BAR was on.) Look at the shield and health numbers.

I have since found one at OP10 with one of my Gaiges. Even worse. Capacity approaching 24 million, health reduction of several million. In use health showed full health at 0.

It is the way it slows you down to walking speed when running I find most annoying. Sells for a fair amount though.

YEah, I notice the slow speed, but with UCP its less obnoxious, since they seem to have reduced the speed reduction.

What are actually good shields?

For the OP no too many annoying aspects

At the higher UVHM levels I mostly relied on the Anshin Legendary Shield the Neogenator (reappears in BLTPS as Reogentor) for Maya and Zer0 but thats me

Heres a useful page ::: https://www.ign.com/wikis/borderlands-2/Legendary_Shields

Have fun :::

Large capacity shields tend to get less and less useful as you progress through the difficulty levels. The enemies do so much damage that at most you'll soak 3-4 bullets before they are down. I do remember enjoying the turtle shields in my first playthrough though. I find the Fabled's movement speed penalty quite crippling though (I know there is a meme run where you use fabled tortoise + the bane lol).

They have a use at the very end game in healthgating: they lower your health, find a high enough OP level one and your health will drop to nothing, meaning you can get back above 50% instantly and be effectively invincible.
