Read very carefully..
But it kinda stinks that the developers chose to require such nonsense of us in the first place when those of us fortunate to have played it thru during the game's earlier days around 2013-14 well we could easily & fluently play thru the game in coop combining friends running Windows and friends running macOS with no such snags at all. And no matter what legalistic bull they ran in their answers to the press they (GBX / 2K) never really answered we players who questioned their sense (or lack thereof) in screwing up the game that way <sigh>
BL2 will run On Mac systems with post-Catalina OSs, but Gearbox/2K (apparently) stopped paying Aspyr so ... no further updates on any of it.
Even BL2 is a rev or two behind the PC versions on the Mac, but at least it still runs. If I want to do BL:TPS, I've got to swap over to Windows. I've got a Mac that can do that (the new M1 machines can't run Bootcamp), and I have a Windows 10 license, but not everyone can afford that much just to play a few games.
Linux users are even more screwed.
It's annoying. They cared enough to contract with Aspyr to create Mac ports for BL1, BL2, and BL:TPS (and Tales), and to keep them updated for years. Then they got to Commander Lilith, and the Mac version barely got any updates (and what they did get may have been Aspyr just trying to be nice, no idea if they even got paid for it).
And 2K just decides ... "nah, we don't care about those customers anymore".
It doesn't endear me to either 2K or Gearbox.

There are other factors (like whether or not the SHiFT servers are recognizing you, which regions you and your friends are in, etc etc) but in theory, it should again be possible.
