Borderlands 2 Online Mode Glitch Fix
Step 1: Turn off your internet
Step 2: Start up the game and wait until you're in the main menu.
Step 3: Turn internet back on.
Step 4: Go to Network Mode and click any of the online modes.
Step 5: Have a friend invite you to their game when you get in the Creating Online Session loop.
Step 6: Connect to their game, initially it will say failed to connect, but if that's the case simply ask for another invite and connect.
Step 7: go to Network Mode while connected to your friends game.
Step 8: DISABLE CROSS PLAY.

Cross Play is the issue that bugs out online play, and will cause infnite Create Online Session loops.

If this doesn't work, leave a message and i'll try to help you out.

i tried your method, but the issue is that both me and the other person that i was playing now have this issue, so sending invites to each other is out of the question. if crossplay is the issue that creates the "infinite create online session loops," how do i disable crossplay? where in the settings is it?

crossplay option pops up after you run borderlands 2 for the first time after the latest update afaik.

thats what happened to me, i was playing and suddenly an orange option popped up telling to enable or disable crossplay, i disabled it and yet im still having the same issue.

You can go to the shift website and do it. I tried it but it didn't work, you're free to try it though.

How can you disable cross play?

This worked for me! It reverts the game back to the previous update without the stupid SHiFT/Borderlands 3 update which broke online https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2014284368

The game isn't playable online anymore. I think this is a deliberate choice on the part of the publishers to try to push people into Borderlands 3. It's called planned obsolescence.

the thing is, restarting the game solves the problem. i just dont want it to get stuck in the restoration loop whenever i lose connection (which happens very often).

Fizik, could you elaborate on that?
Every time my game starts into offline mode and I get put into a loop of the main screen when i try changing it. Restarting the game doesnt seem to help at all.

SOLVED!!!!! Posting for anyone who is still having this issue 2024 and onwards, was having this same problem where it enters the infinite loop and searched everywhere for an answer with no luck, but I figured it out. Change your DNS settings! Use the free google DNS 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 (Just search how to setup google DNS) and it will end the loop of death, allowing you to disable crossplay, which from what I can tell is the cause of it or at least not helpful. Let me know how it all goes and good luck vault hunters :))
