UCP vs Regular
What are the pros and cons of playing the UCP or the regular game? Is there a significantly higher number of players on one versus the other?

UCP:
Weapon Buffs
Shield Buffs
Boosted Skills
New Weapon Skins
Modified Class Mods
New Weapon Drop Locations
Repeatable Slaughter Domes
Auto Pick Up Rare Currency

In other words UCP makes the game alot easier and not worth playing for that reason.

If you want a mod that buffs things, you might enjoy the UCP. If you want more challenging mods that buff some stuff and nerf some other stuff, the UCP won't be attractive to you. The number of players is significantly higher for what you call the regular game (aka the "vanilla game"). Pros of the UCP are as specified by Nodoka and cons of the UCP are various & can be significant but I prefer not to discuss them as the UCP developers are friends of mine.

i wouldnt say it makes it easier as much as it gives you more options to use.

For Gadget - not true. Where are the options to use in the UCP that nerfs things that need nerfing? Those nerfing options don't exist in the UCP. There are only buffs in the program.

in the latest patch they added optional nerfs. but what i meant by my comment was that it makes weapons that are considered unviable in the vanilla game viable with the patch. you can also turn off anything you dont like.

Haven't followed the program since V3 when the developers voted down our requests to nerf certain things. In any case, I can't recommend installing it for other reasons which I won't discuss here but we discussed in detail in the UCP threads on the Gearbox BL2 Forum back in late 2016 / early 2017.

IMO, UCP is worth it. It doesn't make the game too easy for me, it only makes it more fun for me. It turns mediocre weapons into great ones, it turns mediocre skills into great ones, and it adds more fun viable builds into the game. People say it makes the game too easy, cuz they're used to vanilla Borderlands 2, which is fine.

Either way, its up for you to decide whether or not you wanna play on UCP. Try it out, and see if you like it.

Borderlands 2 is not that hard even on OP8 aslong as you know what you are doing no matter what class you play. Making it even easier is a big no for me.

what you seem to be misunderstanding is that it doesnt make the game easier as it makes more things viable. the reason why there are so many buffs is because frankly, there are a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ weapons and skills in the game and the patch aims to try and fix that. its not meant to be a balance patch, its meant to give the player more options at the higher difficulties. you can prefer vanilla thats fine, but your view on the patch is a bit skewed.

tldr:
the reason there are so many buffs is to give the player more options. its not weapons like the unkempt harold being buffed, its weapons like the devastator, its ♥♥♥♥♥♥ seraph cousin

A sensible suggestion. One cannot know until one tries. There are actually two ways to try it out. I suggest the one in which your close friend who is a tech expert has it installed on his trials machine - ask him to show you the UCP's benefits and discuss with you how the UCP program is constructed and analyze potential problems with the UCP's drawbacks. If you've got such a friend he can invite you into his game with it already installed and demonstrate its parameters. Bear in mind that installing it yourself on your own machine is thus unecessary.

you dont need to be a tech expert. you just need to put 2 files into your binary folder and the filter tool will hex edit your game for you

It's also worth noting that you need to turn it on whenever you want to use it, it doesn't remain on between games, at least for me. Therefore, if you install it and don't like it, or just want to mess around without it, you can just not activate it. If I'm farming bosses at a low level with a friend, I'll turn it on for the eridium auto-pickup.

ucp was made to give a more enjoyable experience and to iron out any ♥♥♥♥ gear that didnt have a place in the game in the firstplace

it also makes finding certain weapons easier, makes skills more usable and also allows you to redo quests mid game instead of resetting the game to the beginning.

its entirely optional and is enabled through a console command, you can lets say, play through ucp until you beat a boss, realise you dont like it, and then never enable it again

in the end, its entirely user preference, if you want to remain loyal to the "vanilla is best" motto then go for the vanilla game, if you want a new experience with more options, go for ucp.

btw, it doesnt really make the game any easier than it does make it harder. it just irons out many flaws with the game.

I doubted the UCP from being a bit of purist when it comes to gaming experiences. I tried it out and I can't imagine why certain things weren't implemented in the first place (the ability to auto-pickup Eridium, Seraph Crystals, and Torgue Tokens, for example). The buffs to various subpar gear and skills, the repeatable Slaughter Domes, and respawning of one-time encounters is a huge bonus, without taking away from the stuff that's already great..
