You'll level up really quickly making your weapons deal next to no damage against higher level enemies, so farming is a waste in the early game, you are better off just using whatever gear you find and then waiting until either max level or Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode to farm.

One of my favorite maps to farm is The Dust. You have Mobley and Gettle, the bandits you kill at the end of "The good, the bad and the Mordecai" quest. They can drop The Veruc AR, and the Lyuda sniper, jumping down into the nearby bandit camp there is a chance that The Black Queen can spawn in the back which can drop the Nukem RL.
Then you have the boss/bosses from "Clan Wars" questline. I would reccomend killing the Hodunks so you can farm yourself a Slagga SMG, one of the best slagging weapons in the game. You can keep that forever if you like.
You have McNally which is farmable if you progress a bit into "The Bane" questline, he can drop the Hammerbuster AR.
If you unlock all of these you can do a decent loop and kill everything for XP, and hope for some drops. Most stuff works in normal and TVHM, but this loop is pretty good if you're in need of some gear for UVHM, and the xp is decent. In UVHM. In UVHM there is a chance for chubby spiderants after level 62 to drop you legendary COMs, so those are always nice.

With lvl 26 you are still in Normal Vualthunter mode - there is no real reason to farm anything at that stage. Look at the missions you have avialable - if the main-mission is around your level you might just progress that, if it is higher than do some side-missions around your level.

Farming for legendaries this early is basically useless: The enemies do NOT scale with your level so you can only use a very limited subset of bosses for farming, the droprates are low, and the benefit is minimal as on lower level you can easily outlevel the missions making everything easy anyways (aside from the weapons becomming royally underleveld soon)

I thought farming legendaries is actually a good idea. But now I wonder if it's really necessary. Im beating this game 100%, and my weapons are actually not that bad.

None.

Don't bother farming in Normal mode. Use whatever drops. Experiment. Try out guns you think are junk. Some of them are junk, but some that you thought were junk will surprise you with their effectiveness.

Color is important, but level is more important. Don't fall into the trap of thinking only Legendaries are worth using.

Don't bother farming in TVHM either.

Farming better weapons and/or gear is for when you're having trouble proceeding. When you're in UVHM, and all your gear is old, then you should farm up something. Or when you're trying to push your way through the OP levels.

Before that, use what you find.
So if you didn't catch what they are saying, when you play Borderlands 2, you don't just play the story once. At the end of the first play through, your character is around level 33 and your skill tree is very underdeveloped. The real fun is playing through a second time (True Vault Hunter Mode) and then a third/fourth/fifth time (Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode) to max your character out at level 80 (previous max was 72). What everyone is saying is that it's faster to just play through the story using guns you naturally find or Golden Chest guns up until the end of TVHM at level 50. After Level 50 when you enter UVHM, it makes sense to farm occasionally because any enemy you fight will automatically scale to your level so you can always farm an at-level weapon. If you farm a legendary in Normal or TVHM, the weapon level is always pegged to the level of the in game mission, so its not always worth farming.

When you get to Ultimate Vault Hunter mode, you're going to want to start looking for some of the following items: the Grog Nozzle for slagging and healing (mission item/ don't finish that mission), Unkempt Harold (farm Savage Lee; Double Penetrating variety is best), The Bee Shield for massive damage (farm Hunter Hellquist in Arid Nexis), The Sham Shield for high bullet absorption (farm The Bunker, very rare drop), Lyuda snipers from The Dust, The Sandhawk smg from Captain Scarlett DLC, A Norfleet launcher if you bring a group and are lucky enough to spawn Vermiverous. Those are just some all around great weapons off the top of my head. Obviously you'll want find the guns that match your class and playstyle.

The best place in the game to farm loot once you get to UVHM is the Snow Man boss in the Mercenary Day DLC. The Snow Man is easy to kill with the right build and when he dies, a train full of loot arrives, often having purple and legendary items. As soon as you take when you need, save, and quit, then reload back into the DLC and rush to the Snow Man. Once you finish the DLC, you can run to the snow man quickly and farm him over and over. Lots of fun and great loot!

Later - way later. At TVHM (2nd difficulty) you might occasionally farm a few things to make certain fights easier, but really - farming is only really worth it in UVHM (lvl 50+). Before that you just level too fast and enemies do not scale with you, so there is just no point to it.

What help is say a lvl 15 legendary sniper when you are lvl 26 or higher? None.
Does it help you to farm for a specific weapon for 30 minute when in the same time you could have progressed the sotry further and got a decent blue/pruple weapon 2 leveles higher?

When you get a legendary you take it, but going out of your way to farm em - if you like it, but won't save time nor really make it easier.

I would argue tiny-tiny-jokename-robot in Lilith-DLC is better. incredible easy (the one fight were i use an infinity - got it with corrosion) and really high droprates.
And the fast-travel is really close by.

In normal mode and in tvhm I only farm 2 legendaries: the harold from Savage Lee and the fastball from Boll. These two can be usable even after you level up 10 levels.
Since you are at lvl 26, farm these two after you start Tvhm

In my experience the difficulty in normal mode only really comes if you're underleveled for the mission you're at, I suggest looking for some side quests to do that are on level, sometimes they will give good quest rewards as well.
