If you have the Community patch installed, it changes the gemstone weapons rarity colour. They are normally purple rarity.

Grey print on item-cards isn't a legit color programmed by the BL2 developers. The only ways you could have gotten this grey-print pistol from Butt Stallion is if you (and / or a friend who was team leader of your coop team) had installed a third-party software program such as Cheat Engine (CE) or the Unofficial Community Patch (UCP). From other details you've shared, I'm guessing you've played with a team leader who had CE or UCP installed (though I might be wrong). Have you installed CE or UCP? If the UCP, can you please tell me when you installed it (approx what month & year?). Thanks!
