From the wiki.

Pearlescent weapons appear at the highest difficulty levels. They require at least one of the Ultimate Vault Hunter upgrade packs in order to spawn.

The first set of Pearlescent weapons is included in the first Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade pack.

These will appear only while playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. While they can appear from any loot source, they have an increased chance to drop from Legendary Loot Midgets, Tubby enemies, and the final boss in Digistruct Peak.

They can also be won from the slot machine in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, even in Normal Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode, making that slot machine the only source of Pearlescent weapons of level less than 50.

Not from the wiki.

You can also get them randomly from chests, skag piles, etc.

Not sure of the drop rate.

Some of these weapons are crap, and a few of them are good eg the bekah, butcher and carnage.
If you're in UVHM, I recommend farming the loot midgets in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve. If you have the mission Doctor's Orders active and none of its echoes picked up, you can get 4 loot midgets from the boxes in the chest room (next to where you find Bloodwing's feather, and where you fight the two badass skags). You can get quite a few pearls that way with persistence.

You can also 'farm' the boss OMGWTH in Digistruct Peak. Do it at OP8 and he's guaranteed to drop a pearl.
As mentioned above, there's a set of pearls that only drop from tubbies. These are a real pain to get. Farming badass varkids is a good way if you're determined.

There´s a couple of other runs I like to do:

Arid Nexus: Hunt down Skags, 3 red chests + Saturn (Hive & Invader)

The Dust: Spiderants at Ellies, Mobly & Gettle (Veruc & Lyuda), McNally (Hammer Buster)

Frostburn Canyon: Hunt down Spiderants, Scorch (Hellfire) & Spycho ( Neogenator)

If you have acces to the Creature Slaughter you can repeatedly fail and redo certain rounds to get tubbies to spawn and/or go for Vermivorous.
very helpful
I lovve Frostburn Canyon too! Lots of tubby opportunity, 3 legendaries, 2 red chests if you do a short run (down to Scorch up to Spycho and back to vendors), 4 if you do the whole Canyon.

There are only 12 pearlescent guns in BL2, which alone makes pearls far more rare than legendaries. The first eight can be accessed by purchasing the first Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack dlc and include some top quality goods like the Butcher, Unforgiven, Avenger and Stalker and the second four can be accessed by purchasing the second Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade 2 Pack dlc while playing in UVHM and include some outrageous goods like the Bekah and Carnage. All 12 are outlined here > http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Pearlescent#Borderlands_2
