Each manufacturer has a specific Gemstone skin, so for Dahl their weapons can come in Emerald for Bandit it is Quartz, for Jakob it is Citrine, etc.
As for the bonus to critical hit damage, it is relatively small, ranging from 6.5% to 7.5% depending on brand and weapon type, and stacks with any existing critical hit bonuses. The specific bonuses are:
- Jakobs Assault Rifles: +6.5%
- Jakobs Shotguns: +6.5%
- Pistols, all brands: +7.5% (multiplicative)
- All other weapons: +7.5%
This small bonus makes purple rarity guns slightly more useful. For example if you enjoy using a Quad (4-barreled Jakobs shotgun), the Citrine is slightly better than the regular due to the critical hit bonus. It is speculated that they have other special effects, but these haven't been confirmed properly (yet).
Gemstone weapons can only be obtained from Butt Stallion.

I think it's better damage, higher accuracy and mag size to be specific :>
