Profile.bin is stored in the same folder as the save files. It contains your gold keys, any skins you have unlocked, the contents of Claptrap's stash and your BAR bonus settings.
If the game does not find a valid profile.bin at the start of a session it will create a fresh one, which will not have gold keys, unlocked skins etc.
Secondly, any SHIFT codes you have already used for keys / skins / whatever are tied to your account and can only be used once.
Check your unlocked vehicle skins at the Catch-a-ride. Character skins at the quick change. See if there is anything in Clappy's stash, check on the BAR section in your menu. If this is all wrong, your profile.bin file is toast. There isn't really any way to restore what has been lost.
Always back up your save files. Copy the whole folder to a thumb drive / different HD / whatever and do so regularly. So if Something Bad happens, you will at least have a way of restoring your profile.bin or character save from the most recent backup.
If you play co-op, especially with randoms you should probably make a fresh backup before the start of a session.
I'll go back a day and see what happens.
Thanks.
If my profile.bin is corrupted shouldn't my characters be gone as well?
No. Each character has their own save file. Profile.bin is shared between all characters.
Still no keys. Not that important.
However, on a related note, I was using the App Store version of BL2. When last year's sale, the one where I could get everything for $15 I got it for Steam. This included all skins and heads.
They've never shown up in the Quick Change station. They show as installed but I've never seen them.
The new profile didn't change that.
Is this a related problem.
Thanks for the help,
