what is the point in doing digistruct peak

Challenge for sake of challenge. And fun. Sure, you can get ocassional legendary/pearl drops from chests/bosses during peak run, but these drops are just nice bonus.

And increasing your character's OP level gives you more chances to get pearlecent weapons. (From Tubby enemies, to be clear. And OMGWTH on OP8 peak can drop a guaranteed gen 1 pearl weapon.)

u unlock acess to much stronger gear..up to lvl 80- op8

i did it at lvl 59 zero, i just found the start and most of it overall to just be annoying, especially the rabid skags.

You should try to kill the rabid skags. It renders them far less annoying.

well your point was that it was supposed to be done at 72, this would imply there is a difference in gameplay that makes it better than doing it at a lower level like 59. so interesting would be how is it different and better when at 72?

in order to unlock the OP levels, you need to be level 72. any runs before that will be a meaningless exercise.

additionally, once you get to level 72 you'll be at max level. no more Skill points. time to experiment with different builds. the Peak is meant to be challenging, not " interesting ".

It's challenging. A good way to test your skills, that is for sure.
