Can I continue playing after the story?
I want to wait until after to do the DLC missions, but I don't know if this is like New Vegas, where the side missions need to be done before the main quest

To TVHM

You can do side missions and DLC any time, even after the story. If you are going to do TVHM and UVHM you may want to watch your level and move on to the next before you get to high.

I wished borderlands 2 had that thing MMO´s sometimes have where you can turn XP gain off, so you could stay on level 50 forever in TVHM and do the DLC´s

Just do them and then use gibbed to go back to level 50.

You can continue playing after the main story, yes. All the DLC missions, and any main story (or side quest missions) that you haven't completed will still be available. However, Normal mode tops out at level 30, so ... it's likely to get boring after a while. (Tiny Tina and Sir Hammerlock will scale up to 35, but they're the only exception).

You might wish to move on to True Vault Hunter Mode (TVHM). In TVHM, everything is reset, but you play at level 30ish to 50ish. Beyond that there's UVHM which is levels 50ish to 72.

In each mode you have to do the main story again (in order to unlock the next mode). But each mode is independent, and you can switch between them at will. The game will remember your quest progress for each mode separately.

Gibbed is a 3rd party save editor for Borderlands 2, I don't recommend using it (for basic game play anyway). It does have some useful features, but it's better to play the game for yourself.

What I'd recommend is that you finish Normal mode, and them move on to TVHM. In TVHM, just do the bare minimum of the story, and do some of the DLC to make up the difference in experience. The DLC stories are more fun if they're a challenge.

With the save editor, you can set your exp to 0 at any level and stay there until you earn all the exp again, then reset at will. I have done that for one I wanted to stay at level 50 so I could play the others above at will without uninstalling and then reinstalling the upgrade packs repeatedly.

Oh, so I am level 30 in Normal game. Done quite a lot of side quests. The story is nearing it's end, just one more chapter I think. I was planning on doing one or two more side quests before finishing the normal game, no special reason, just fun doing side quests.

After reading your post, it seems I should forget about other side quests for now and finish the story? Other side quests and thenTVHM can be done after finishing the story.

Is that right? Do you recommend I proceed straight to the main story and finish it first before doing any other side quests? I really don't know so would like some pointers from long time veterans of this game!

Just to summarize. I am level 30 now, and I think one more main quest story to do, before finishing the main story line. Should I proceed to that before any more side quests?

Thanks in advance. Quite a few helpful people in the BL2 threads!!

Edit: I am not talking about any DLC. I have done none of that. Just side quests in the main game. Sorry, wasn't clear about that.

yea I know you can use gibbed for that but It should be a feature in the game especially considereing how hard UVHM gets if you are 3-4 levels over 50, I dunno maybe it will be a feature for BL3

You can certainly complete any lingering quests you want to in Normal mode.

My point is that most of the Normal mode content won't level beyond 30 (indeed, content is fixed, so it remains the level you first encountered it in the Story). This means it'll get boring (in my opinion of course).

When you move on to TVHM, you'll have to redo the main story. Many people dislike the idea of replaying everything exactly as they did before (including the side missions). This is why I suggest doing (some of) the DLC's when you start TVHM, specifically for variety.

In TVHM, the main story will give you about 10 levels of experience. Each of the 4 big story DLCs will give you about 5ish levels. (These are rough estimates of course). If you do the main story, do one of the DLC's and then a few of your favorite side missions, you'll probably find yourself at about level 50, which is where you should be at the end of TVHM.

The main game (main story and side missions) is sufficent to take you all the way through Normal mode, and all the way through TVHM.

The DLC stories are additions beyond that. So, in my opinion, their best use is to provide variety during the leveling process.

@Nakos. Thanks man, totally clear now.

I like when people are helpful like you. Some of the other game forums, even Civ 6, are just a heap of stupid rants. Usually the long time players of BL2, like you, clearly love the game and give good sensible advice.

A shame other forums are not like that. But, well....it's never going to happen. Wofstein forums are best avoided too, (or used to be, I gave up on them ages ago.)
