quick explain how to rocket jump

i've been watch ppl playin borderlands 2 on youtube and they can do a rocket jump.
i tried to do that with my siren, i got the shame and badaboom but is not going so well, when i shot rocket on the ground it just have chance about 50% to absorb ammo, and 50% suicide.
and if it works the height is not what i expected, just like jump a little bit or something. not flying high as i thought.

am i doing this wrong? or there is a step that i missed?

Well, you need low level Badaboom for rocket jumps.

I don't rocket jump but I believe you need to remove whatever grenade mod you're wearing so you don't kill yourself. I'd imagine you'd also want to wear a high capacity shield.

my siren is 64 with the shame 61 and badaboom 50.
im not combining grenade and rocket jump, just do it with rocket but isnt work

Is a level 50 badaboom still too high? Maybe try for a Level 27 from Normal Mode?

It is all in the timing - jump then shoot the launcher. The same way it is done in Quake and QuakeLive, and you do need to practise it to get the timing just right.

A level 50 Badaboom is still a bit high. Get a Badaboom from King Mong in normal mode - usually level 20 something.

The other thing is that the Badaboom shoots like 6 rockets or something and each does a bunch of damage, so if you absorbed one rocket, you might not have absorbed the other 5...
