how do loot midgets work

kinda new to the game and i only ever played borderlands 3 so emmm how do loot midgets work.
Like do they drop a bag like in bl3, how can they spawn. Srry i only have a few hrs in bl2 and still pretty new.

Pretty simple: You unsuspectingly loot e.g. a cardboard box, they hop out and attack you. Beware, they can be pretty tough little critters... ...but once they die, they do so with an above-average-grade lootsplosion! Much stuff, and quality can go up to legendary - though it also can be only a ton of ammo sometimes.

"Surprise mother..."
If you want to farm midgets i suggest you to do that in the later game
best places are imo
Dahl abandon ( Crate where you have to pick the girly mag right before the burrows in the commander DLC,space cowboy mission)
Wildlife exploitation preserve (doctor's orders mission must be active) in the room close to the badass skags you get 4 guaranteed midgets

ah i see, this is as bl3 had loot tink bags while bl2 doesnt so i was quite confused why sometimes only ammo would spawn.

Yeah on Doctor's Orders they are still farmable, but for each 1 of the echos you pick up it reduces the number. I accidently picked up 1 in the loot midget box room, but could still farm 3 midgets per run instead of 4.

In normal mode its probably the first place you can get a legendary com, they can drop there at levels 20-22 roughly.

you can also farm the loot midgets in Thousand Cuts.
