And comparing Quake to Borderlands, really? It's like comparing Mafia II to Life is Strange because there both 3rd person and that is about the only similarity, or comparing What remains of edith finch to call of duty because they're first person games.
This was exactly what I had in mind. When playing Sal I also feel like his slightly smaller build is has some issues.
Likewise Krieg sometimes get stuck in the rounded door openings and have to crouch some time.
Never had any problem with the other 4 characters though.
I can't remember ever getting stuck to the point of restarting. If you ever think you're really stuck, try unequiping your grenade mod and grenade jump. Even if jumping isnt an option it can move you enough to spit you out.
It does seem odd that the collision detection never got patched. For how many times a person goes to the HQ in Sanctuary, no one said "Can you fix that step?"
I think it is more of an issue with TSP, since a jump in low gravity requires you to jump and do the butt slam.
The Bloodshot Stronghold is one of the worst areas for getting caught on things and the worst offender is this area right before you get to Mad Mike.

If you go into the area where my crosshair is, it is likely that you will get hung up on get boxed in. The problem is that there is a large curved area with collision detection even though there is no visible step or ledge. It requires a jump to get back out of there. In fact that whole curved ring has collision detection even where it appears perfectly flat.
It hasn't stopped me from playing the game like the OP, but it is one of my pet peaves with it. I have my physX set to low to prevent loot from dropping through floors. I have not idea what else would cause it.
If you look at something like a valve game you'll see that they add tons of invisible clips around complex/small geometry and make small objects collision free, making it very rare to really get stuck somewhere.
Or, if you have PhysX turned up, you could try setting that to Low. I think I read that that can cause terrain issues (besides the more common problem of things falling through the ground).
Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. I've never had much trouble getting stuck, except when I was exploring somewhere where you're not really meant to go.
