Ran out of Video Memory?? Still??

Hey gues..i have a problem. I am playing Borderlands with some Friends and i am the only one whos game often crashes because of the "Ran out of Video Memory" Error.

I really dont know why or what i could do. And help on google is like 3-4 Years old.

System:
Windows 10
I7 6700 Skylake
Geforce GTX 1080 TI
32GB RAM

Anyone has a clue and some help maybe?

The issue tends to happen to people with higher end PC's because they push 1440p or 4K and they end up reaching the memory problem.

BL 2 is 32bit so it can't use as much VRAM.
What resolution you play on?

@ 4K standard, I show it to use 2129 MB VRAM used on Mercenary Day map.
@ 4K with UHD texturs it shows 2894 MB VRAM used on Mercenary Day map

The driver for the GPU is 64 bit, not sure how much control the app has in addressing VRAM, but up to around 3.5 to 4GB should be OK with 32 bit addressing depending on how much may be used for system resources.

IOW, I don't think it's because the game is 32 bit, or we would all have the issue.

try right clicking on the .exe and in the properties make the compatibility mode windows 7

I tried windows 7 and 8 compatibility modes they din't change a thing. The 32bit limit is a known issue with multiple old games specially with mods. But for me with my RTX2080 i get the ran out of video memory in multiplayer with all settings maxed and 4k + phyx pretty easily. With Phyx off it doesn't happen.

Then freezes happen if the mechromancer is using that skill even with Phyx off no matter the resolution.

Thing is in reality BL 2 is only meant to be able to use around 2GB of Vram, up to 4GB with the "4gb patch" but it never helped me.

Even if w/e program you are using tells you you are currently using 3k+ it doesn't mean it's using them on BL2. For example right now i'm at 1gb used while just browing google chrome.

I had this issue for a few weeks and searched through several forums, checked my hardware, and even tried to change how much video ram the game used. But after none of these options worked I simply tried to close apps that might prevent the game from using enough video ram. The first app I tried was Discord, and instantly the game ran perfectly fine. I don't know if this was specifically caused by Discord but closing unnecessary apps that run in the background might help someone.

Me too. I run the game with 10% more maxed out. Its crashed twice or three in the past 3 months but always the cpu hitting a 65C limit I imposed in the bios. :) Here are my specs:

Hello. I wonder has anyone who has this issue simply tried turning off VM pagefile in windows? If you have 16 gb of system ram to see if that stops the issue. I had mine turned off ages ago and had forgotten until it came up in a thread.

GO STEAMLIBRARY-> STEAMAPPS->COMMON->BORDERLANDS 2-> BINARIES -> WIN32
AND LASTLY RIGHT CLICK ON BORDERLANDS2.EXE & RUN ADMINISTRATOR
YOU NEED TO SKIP THE LAUNCHER. DON'T KNOW WHY BUT IT WORKS. I NEVER EXPERIENCE ANOTHER DC AGAIN!!
HOPE THIS HELPS U ALL :)
P.S. I KNOW ITS ANNOYING BUT BORDERLANDS 2 WILL KEEP CRASHING IF U START IT FROM STEAM... SO YOU HAVE TO DO THE WHOLE STEP EVERYTIME TO GET IT TO WORK. MAKE A SHORTCUT OR SOMETHING IDK

Could you MAYBE try posting without the Caps Lock?

If this is what you wish to do, why not go there, right click and create a shortcut, then move that shortcut to the desktop? This way you have no need to navigate the the install folder.

Yeah I have the same problem. Just a year ago I could run this game with a problem but now it crashes on me all the time. Interestingly I also play the the Mecromancer, which a lot of people seem to have problems with.

I play Gaige a lot, crashed once, well, maybe twice. Been running a Gaige through the new DLC, no issues so far and this is her second trip through.

1.) Click on the start menu then type CMD, right click onto it and run as administrator.

I tried all solution-tips from you guys... never worked for me.. i get the error when the Warrior Spawns, when i shoot him, i get the error, every time.

i Tried the 4gb Tip, the Phys-x Low settings crap / Phys-x as GPU Tip... the CMD tip, everything.

I think its just the fact, that the .exe is a 32 bit thing on a 64 bit monster specs PC... that causes the problem.

I disabled my nvidia shaders and it worked

Had this game since release been played it for over 700 hours, now I cant even get past the first level, out of memory error same place all the time. I now have 2 GTX 1080ti graphics cards, disabling sli does not help. VRam using goes over 4GB then crash occurs.

Disabling shaders does not help, reducing settings does not help
