Is it possible to reset badass ranks?
Or rather re-spec? I think I've screwed up and I'd prefer not to start from scratch

You really don't understand how it all works. They are anything but random. You do not get infinite badass ranks. Deleting parts of your save file?
The wrongness is strong with this one.

OP. Normally it is not possible to reset the BAR bonuses in game. There are ways around this, but there are downsides.

BAR 101

Your BAR, BAR bonuses, golden keys, unlocked skins and the contents of Claptrap's secret stash are stored in the profile.bin file in your save file folder.

BAR and BAR bonuses are not the same thing.
You earn BAR from doing the challenges. This earns you BAR tokens which can be spent on the BAR bonuses - a small increment to them each time.
Most people have figured this out.

The game will not let you concentrate on boosting a limited number of BAR bonuses. It will try to make you keep them reasonably balanced. If you concentrate on something like gun and grenade damage and ignore everything else, it will just stop offering them to you after a while. The options it offers are the furthest away from your max bonus, it is trying to keep it all balanced. The options are not random.

The game calculates the BAR from your save files, that is where the challenge information is.
If you do not have a profile.bin, the game will create a fresh new one and add the BAR from the character you load. If you have a lot of characters, they will all need to be loaded, and their BAR contributions will be added to the BAR total.
This should leave you with your total character BAR, no BAR bonuses and a bunch of unallocated tokens. (no golden keys etc either)

This is one way to reset the bonuses and start over. Delete the profile.bin, or rather rename it to something else - if anything goes wrong, you can always restore the original.
Downsides - any unlocked cosmetics, including those from Shift codes will be gone. You will have to find / earn them all over again. Character and vehicle.
Golden keys - gone.
Any Shift codes you have used for skins, golden keys etc can only be used once, so you will not be able to use them again.

If you feel you have concentrated on the 'wrong' bonuses, the game will bring them all into balance over time. Don't worry about it.

Profile editors exist. If you still fell the need to mess with your profile, google how to do so.

I assume he used a modded save from someone and that bumped his badass ranks to absurd levels.

Or maybe something else

OP no way to reset badass ranks beside starting over or using some risky software that can edit badass ranks .. among other things

It's not risky software, it's pretty well known and you can't get banned for using it.

Didn't know it edited badass rank tho, as I've only ever used the program once, to edit in some cash when I was being a lazy ass.

I am not talking about Gibbed... Obviously since it cannot touch badass ranks , golden keys or anything "profile" related.

Ah, my bad then, cause I know gibbed is safe lol

Um, gibbed can do golden keys, I thought? Like I said, it's been awhile, but I could have sworn that was added to it.

Well, the simplest way is just to delete (or move) your existing Profile.bin file.

Your cosmetic skins, your golden keys, and your Badass Ranks are all stored there, as well as Claptrap's stash.

I believe there are profile editors out there, but I don't know for sure. The Mac version of the save editor (Bordertool2) can edit the profile.bin file.

Edit: You can also just turn your BAR off for any particular character you like, just go to the BAR page for that character, I believe the default key to toggle them on and off is "Q".

you get infinite badass ranks and theyre random and theyre for every new character. Theres no way to reset them outside of deleting parts of your savefile nor is there a point to because those gains are from a randomly generated list each time. You cant just dump every BA point into gun damage, its always different.

Yeah, pretty much what I imagined. I focused on things like gun damage, elemental and so on, but it's all over the place. But like PK Ultra said, each rank varies and sometimes there's nothing I reallu like

Also you get heavily diminishing returns on each stat as they near 10%, also while being able to only exclude two of the stats in reality if you really wanted to go out of the way. At this point I just take the thing that's the lowest since I tend to get .3% at most anyway.
