When does Krieg start becoming good?
Ive heard that it can take a while to get him going and Im sticking with this build that is on the steam guides for a heavy melee build, and yet I feel like im very glassy. Im only level 16 and yet I just feel like my melee damage outside of the ult, is bleh and that i am hardly able to tank any kind of damage

RTB is very powerful... at lvl 31 u cant get it before... up to that point i advice u to have 1 point in thrill the kill... on kill u get hp back very useful for 1 point only

Once you get Silence the Voices, he becomes very offensively powerful, but you'll need to stick to throwing axes, or have a bladed Moxxi gun in hand. Once you get Release the Beast, he becomes fairly close to immortal against mobs for all of Normal and TVHM.

I am currently playing my first Krieg play through and went pure Hellborn and it is awesome lol. The stuff he spews while tossing out fireballs at everything I rarely die unless it is from doing something crazy thinking I am unkillable lol

Kreig is always good. In the beginning you should have went the first tree and bandit weapons with big clips. Lay down wall of bullets. Then as you get more skill points you go into the middle tree and melee. You don't need roid sheilds to be good (until late in the game).

If you're hell bent on going melee early (middle skill tree) then you should basically run up to mobs and start stabbing away (Buzz Ax Rampage skill enabled or not), but always save a weak enemy unit for when you're downed. Use bladed weapon if you manage to find one. It doesn't matter what level it is, just use it for the blade because it buffs your melee. When you can get RPGs then you can use that to save yourself when downed. Even if you had no skills enabled, the beginning 60 levels are ridiculously easy if you just keep close to mobs of enemies at all times and use them to save yourself when downed. Once you have Thrill to Kill it's pretty easy to tank. And once you have Release the Beast you get endless Buzz Ax Rampage

If you don't know how to throw Kreigs melee weapon then you should learn it quick. It counts as melee for melee skills. (It's Godly for getting more kills because it keeps you from having to run to enemies to melee.)

Meh, not needed early in the game (below level 60).

It's a needless power buff. Kreig can kill everything easily without it (especially in normal and TVHM) and not having to deal with smacking yourself in the face when you forget and use the melee button is a plus. Also, you don't need a moxxi weapon for healing, that's what Thrill of the Kill is for. (Your odds of getting a bladed Moxxi weapon are crap without hacking or force closing.)

You don't need special gear to tank with Kreig. If you need special gear to win then you're not doing it right.

I think Krieg is good from about the time you select him and start the game. I don't know that I would lean all the way on melee at the start, but at lower levels it's not that much of an issue.
Everything around you is weaker than when you do get all the good skills, so you don't need to be that strong in lower levels, use your guns and melee at the appropriate times.

Do the Message in a Bottle quest in Hayter's Folly in the Oasis DLC and you'll be rewarded the Rapier, a unique assault rifle that adds a 200% damage bonus to melee attacks.

and it doesn't have to be re-aquired, because all that matters is that 200% damage bonus (bonus points if it's slagged)

Which, if it isn't, you could farm for other slag options such as the Magic Missile grenade mod from the wizards in Tina's DLC, the Slagga SMG you can farm off Tector and Jimbo Hodunk after the Clan War quest line if you sided with the Zafords in the final fight, or the Grog Nozzle pistol that is given to the player as a quest item and remains with them so long as the TIna DLC quest Beard Makes the Man is accepted and never completed.

I'd say around 16. That lets you get Buzzaxe Bombardier, or his overkill healing skill, or lets you use any elemental damage.

For example, with 5 points in Feed the Meat and either Embrace the Pain or Empty the Rage, you'll be able to put 1 point into Thrill of the Kill, and every single kill will heal you, alongside getting either a 1.4x melee or 35% fire rate bonus.

With 11 points in the Hellborn tree, you'll be able to get a reliable 50% damage boost, or a 50% damage reduction, while using slag, electric, fire or corrosive.

With 11 points in Bloodlust, you'll be able to enter a fight with Buzzaxe Rampage, then mow down enemies with your exploding axe, with 50% damage reduction, and you'll end the rampage with 100 bloodlust stacks. So after the rampage ends, you'll have potentially double the ammo capacity. Alternatively, you can put the 5 points into Blood Overdrive, and you won't need the rampage as much - using guns to kill will give 2.5x melee damage for about 7(?) seconds after killing an enemy.
