Jumping on Dr Zeds patient

when jumping on his patient in sanctuary it counts down from 3 but i never get it to 0. What happens and how do I do it? thanks.

all you have to do, is melee the patient.

never tried jumping on it before.

Jumping on enemies deals damage to them.
Probably just the regular damage numbers you are seeing.

It's because the game considers the target as an enemy that can take damage. As someone mentioned jumping on an enemy deals damage to them, so it would be counter intuitive for the game to allow you to kill the patient in any other way besides melee, which is why the "damage" from jumping doesn't kill.
