In the past, soloing Maya, Axton, and Zer0 to OP8, I rarely used Hyperion shotties. I tended to only use them when leveling, when I couldn't find an on-level replacement for my favourites.
Multi-trigger pull Quads/Bushwacks, Ravagers/Hulks are my shotties of choice. They serve as my coup de gras, put 'em down weapons occupying my fourth equipment slot more often than not.
It depends, I guess, on your play style and toon. I use pistols, ARs, and snipers for the medium distance fights, not shotties.
Nothing like landing all 18 pellets in a single trigger pull while up close and personal with a baddie's soft bits.
Change my mind.

I don't use Quads because they're Jakobs Shotguns, and those have tiny mags. I don't want to spend my time reloading so frequently.
