There are two crit spots, on the back of its head/neck and in its mouth (hidden). After you hit on the back of its head, by doing enough damage, it will stagger and open its mouth, revealing its crit spot. Hitting that crit spot will do massive amount of damage, so you have to be quick.
Also, solo is possible but can be tricky. If you do not deal enough damage, he will start to gain his HP, which you can interrupt but again, it's tricky.
Best way is to find a good spot from where you can hit both its spots. You can also get a higher ground by using geysers. When you get Writing deep set (toothpick + mouthwash + retainer) is easier because this set is designed to fight against Haderax, The full set will increase mobility, restore health from melee damage and boost the damage of the Toothpick when in Writhing Deep (Haderax location only).
I tried following the video above and it does not work. I can't easily damage him like he did in the vid. I even have the Bee Shield and the weapon set you mentioned.
This tactic obviously is Gaige-specific but the underlying pattern of lighting the worm on fire and then chipping away with something high DPS is pretty much how I've beaten it, and for sure it gets much easier with friends as Haderax has a few places it can arrive during the self-healing phase that are tricky to shoot from depending on where you stand, but it can be done solo without too much effort, just a whole lot of luck and time.
I see. Well another option is to get to a certain spot where you cannot get hit by its missiles and have enough of an open area to stagger it. One is right side by arena entrance and the other one is on the other side of the arena.
Option two would be someone helping you by you or 2nd person hitting it from a higher ground to stagger it and whoever is on ground level to finally finish it.
Make you you tag the boss as he slithers from hole to hole or else he will regen his health. Once you have a spot you are comfortable with this boss becomes fairly easy to farm solo, granted he still takes longer than Terramorphus.
