Why does Haderax regen health?
How do I stop him from gaining health? No matter how much damage I do, I can't destroy him.

Fellow commando player here. Personally, I find killing Haderax difficult as the commando, what I use though is the Conference Call or Interfacer to directly hit his critical spot and make sure to slag him constantly (either my magic missile grenades or through my turrets). There's a youtube guide that allows you to kill Haderax pretty quickly, although I'm not sure about the rules for posting youtube links here. You could just search it up and it'll teach you how to defeat Haderax pretty quickly.

There are two crit spots, on the back of its head/neck and in its mouth (hidden). After you hit on the back of its head, by doing enough damage, it will stagger and open its mouth, revealing its crit spot. Hitting that crit spot will do massive amount of damage, so you have to be quick.

Also, solo is possible but can be tricky. If you do not deal enough damage, he will start to gain his HP, which you can interrupt but again, it's tricky.

Best way is to find a good spot from where you can hit both its spots. You can also get a higher ground by using geysers. When you get Writing deep set (toothpick + mouthwash + retainer) is easier because this set is designed to fight against Haderax, The full set will increase mobility, restore health from melee damage and boost the damage of the Toothpick when in Writhing Deep (Haderax location only).

I tried following the video above and it does not work. I can't easily damage him like he did in the vid. I even have the Bee Shield and the weapon set you mentioned.

If you shot him with fire, he will not regen health when goes inside the walls

How I went about this was I packed the Nirvana (it's an Iridescent Maliwan incendiary SMG you can get in the DLC, though honestly any incendiary weapon with a high enough burn chance and rate-of-fire would do, honestly), loaded up to max Anarchy, and then whenever it'd burrow out of the ground, I'd light it on fire, and then switch to a Jakobs revolver and keep blasting at it until either the fire went out or Haderax retreated. Rinse and repeat for like 20 minutes until it died. You'll know it's trying to self-heal when it launches out of the ground and quickly finds a new place to burrow, light it on fire ASAP and keep it on fire when it returns. Also note that sometimes Haderax burrows through the ceiling, check the mission location indicator in the minimap to see when it'll be above you.

This tactic obviously is Gaige-specific but the underlying pattern of lighting the worm on fire and then chipping away with something high DPS is pretty much how I've beaten it, and for sure it gets much easier with friends as Haderax has a few places it can arrive during the self-healing phase that are tricky to shoot from depending on where you stand, but it can be done solo without too much effort, just a whole lot of luck and time.

I see. Well another option is to get to a certain spot where you cannot get hit by its missiles and have enough of an open area to stagger it. One is right side by arena entrance and the other one is on the other side of the arena.

Option two would be someone helping you by you or 2nd person hitting it from a higher ground to stagger it and whoever is on ground level to finally finish it.

There are 3 or 4 area's on the map you can get to where he can't hit you. Use the Gun/Shield combo (sorry can't remember their names off hand) that allow you to move faster and jump higher. Once up high change shield to The Bee and equip a Fire Infinity or Regular Infinity with high rate of fire.

Make you you tag the boss as he slithers from hole to hole or else he will regen his health. Once you have a spot you are comfortable with this boss becomes fairly easy to farm solo, granted he still takes longer than Terramorphus.
