Improved leveling system so your xp now matter well past the (current) level cap of 50
Cons
- Really blah story
- Really blah characters
- Some people are calling it "SJW" because it really features women, HEAVILY. I don't think it's SJW, I think the story was written by horny nerds that really need to date more so they can create a decent female character. Half the women in the game are always horny, half are Sigourney Weaver and the the girl is the most generic 13 year old girl ever.
in a nutshell, it depends what is more important to you? Gameplay, or story? If it's gameplay, BL3 is actually really good, in the 85-90% range. Lots of fun and replayability for me, and the 4 rl friends that have this game are all still playing it. Leveling things like gun damage and crit after you level is a brilliant move to make the game feel like you are always "doing something" I have had that usual "itch" to create a new character shortly after hit the level cap, because I'm still progressing.
If you play Borderlands for a compelling story, and you are the type that just does one playthrough to see how it ends, then moves on, I don't think you'd like the game.
And yet I advise everyone to wait until it comes on Steam.
To keep the matter short here the pro and contra list:
PRO:)
- awesome gunplay
- Dropraten approximately at BL2 level
- funny side quests
- nice new weapons
- the levels are extremely beautiful
- Weapon sounds are amazing
CONTRA :(
- No one stops talking, no matter where you are no matter what you do, everyone chats permanently. That's even so bad that I have completely turned off the dialogues because it almost made me crazy.
It's sort of like being at a gathering of women who have not talked to anyone for over 30 years. Anyone who is a little older and has met women in their true verbal form knows what I mean;) And that is not limited to the women in this game. I'll say it this way, if anyone dies in this game you have to kill his mouth extra.
- You are constantly stopped because you have to listen to someone first and then manually press on speech. The Gameflow is constantly being slowed down. This is the first Borderlands where I have a horror to play the campaign.
- Bugs like in starship troopers. In every Borderlands game there are bugs that we are used to but that is ridiculous.
- AVA !!!! I can not eat as much as I would like to puke.
If I had a daughter who was like AVA I would release her in the woods and then move to another country.
- You can not skip movies. Yet again. The ego of gearbox is on such an extreme ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ level that's not funny. yes we know that you can make good cutscenes but after 4 times I would like to skip the movies.
- This game is wasting your time with things you've already seen. No respect for your time.
- But the worst of all is the claptrap has only got a cameo, he is not even seen most of the time.
Today I wanted to continue playing and that's why I wanted to get some things out of my safe. Everything gone. Day-long farms complete for nothing. And the support is non-existent.
I will stop playing now and only continue playing if there is a community patch. Or gearbox massively changes something. This is just too much for me. I continue to play Borderlands 1 and 2. After playing through the fourth time, it is just too lengthy in his narration. And that says someone who has played through the campaigns of Borderlands 1 and 2 at least 40 times. both games 40 times each.
You miss nothing if you wait, this is only a Beta test.
The story of BL2 is in a league of its own.
Take the story of BL3 with a grain of salt and enjoy the looting and shooting and you'll be fine. Take it seriously, and you'll just wind up back here playing BL2 for another run.
Sincerely waiting for a major DLC to continue the character development of previous playable characters.
BL3 is about Sirens, and only Sirens, nobody else matters, nobody else makes more than a cameo.... IF THAT AT ALL.
Cons:
- Story. It's not terrible, but not good either. Forgettable. Not living up to BL2.
- Humour. It's not good but at least it's better than TPS. Vastly inferior to BL2 though.
- Enemy variety. It may seem odd to wish Threshers, Surveyors, Crystalisks and Buzzards back, but they added variety and kept you on your toes. BL3 did improve combat against normal flesh enemies, but it's clearly less varied. Hoping that DLC will change that, but no guarantee.
- menus are even worse/buggier than before
Pros:
+ Better gunplay. It just feels better all around. It is even more fun to me.
+ A LOT of QOL improvements.
+ Classes and builds are more varied thanks to different action skills and augments etc. There's more variety in a single character.
+ No slag.
As for game-breaking bugs, maybe I was lucky that I didn't have any, no empty bank or anything of the sort. I haven't had any noteworthy performance issues either, it's running at near-flawless 60fps. In my 100 hours or so I've had 4 situations where I had to restart because an NPC wouldn't open the door or once because I was teleported out of the map. Thankfully you no longer restart at the latest Fast Travel Station anymore but at the latest checkpoint, so it was a minute at most to get back.
I could mention the BL2 Claptrap platform bug in Southern Shelf here, I know there are fixes if you've followed the discussions here, but if you didn't know that, it was going back to Liar's Berg and doing it all from scratch, 7 years after the game was released. So much for waiting for ironing out bugs.
The menus may be my biggest gripe. They were bad in BL1, worse in BL2, and they're even worse in BL3. I don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ they were thinking by still using that Flash-based Autodesk Scaleform crap, but here we go.
If it's better than BL2 or not is a matter of taste. Personally, I'm having even more fun with BL3, but that may partially be because it gave me the perfect character for my play style (Amara). I loved Maya in BL2 but melee/shotgun siren is simply my dreams come true.
No matter if you prefer BL2 or BL3, they're definitely in the same league. BL3 is a VERY good game. I don't really care about the reviews, half of which seemed to complain that it's not like Tales. I'm a big BL2 fan and I'm loving BL3.
Exactly this. This pretty much sums it all up.
Now you're just being silly
In the best tradition of skeptical doubting, I'm gonna have to say..
Citation needed.
Once you beat the campaign, theres not much incentive to run through a TVHM because then you gotta drudge your way through the main story again.............. GUH......
♥♥♥♥ it, mayhem mode.
I sencerely enjoyed the main storyline of BL2 and it was paced well. Playing through it for the unteenth time is well enjoyed.
I put a couple hours of my 120 hours if BL3 into TVHM, but just couldnt keep going, its a slog. I went back to normal mode and put it on mayhem III while I mopped up the side quests. Beat Normal at Level 31.. now Level 49, guardian rank 29 and havent had to play TVHM.
After you complete the main story all enemies everywhere scale up to you, Mayhem III adds insane difficulties (like playing UVHM), and retarded drop rates and experience.
TL;DR
The story is the bottleneck in this game when it comes to replay value.
