Question about two shades of purple weapons
According to the BL wikia weapon power ranks like this: White, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange, Magenta, Pink, Cyan.

Today while using Keys on the Golden Shift Key chest I've got three weapons that are a slightly different shade of purple. It is more of a red purple which made me think it was probably in the Magenta category. If Magenta is two ranks above purple it seems like the stats would be better.

For example:
A Magenta Dahl Assault Rifle with about 120 less dmg than a Purple Torgue Assault rifle. iirc Jakobs is the high dmg, so shouldn't a Magenta Dahl be higher dmg than a Purple Torgue?

So is this slightly different purple actually a Magenta? Are Magenta's two ranks above normal purple? Is my example above just unlucky on the dmg for some reason?

Well to start i would say rarity is not always an accurate way of evaluating a weapon's power. in fact many cyan guns (pearl) are weaker than some orange (even purple or blue). it depends of the gun itself, of course, but also of parts and accessories attached to it.

Also other factors than damage has to be taken in account to evlauate weapon effectiveness like fire rate, reload speed, accuracy, spread patterns, level...

The golden chest weapons can be purple or magenta. The magenta weapons are all e-tech.
Magenta and purple are equal rarity as far as the game is concerned.
More on that, level matters more than rarity. A level 30 common weapon may be much more powerful then say a level 20 legendary.

By the time you're in the 3rd playthrough UVHM you'll have discovered that whatever page gave you that info isn't speaking precisely literally. In BL2 the color rankings have to be taken with a grain of salt, a grin and a wink cos they're only indicative. Generally white will be lower than green will be lower than purple but that's all you can count on as certain. Frequently, you'll find there are certain cyan, pink, magenta or blue items that you'll prefer over orange if you're like most of us. Sometimes those fancy colors can be very misleading though cos many of those weapons can really suck - only you can be your own best judge by trying everything out before selling it. Have fun :steamhappy:

yeah it doesn't matter about the rarity of the item so if its rare that doesn't mean it will always have better stats, also if you don't know the difference between purple and magenta items, purple are just rare, while magenta just represent E-Tech weapons which are also just rarer than other.

Thanks, I had wondered about that with regard to using golden keys, as magneta isn't necessarily better all round than purple (that's what I thought magneta was supposed to be better than purple - can't remember why I thought that?)
Now it fully makes sense, so thank you for that snippet!!
