How do you get to level 72?
Do you actually have to finish the game 3 times to get to level 72? (normal and true vault hunter mode including DLCs)

You don't have to do all the DLC. The base game and the side quests will get you to about 35 in Normal.

You will have to complete the game at least twice in order to unlock UVHM, but once you've gotten there, there's way more content than is necessary. You don't have to do all of it in each mode.

In UVHM you can reset your playthrough at any point. Do the story , reset-play it again. Or just grind XP through killing bosses.

you have to complete the game twice to unlock Ultimate Vault Hunter mode. In UVHM everything scales up to your level.
If you have all the DLC there´s more than enough content you can play to reach max lvl without grinding.
So you have to go through all 3 playthroughs to reach level 72 but happens by simply playing the game.

Yes, you have to do all the main story missions in Normal to unlock TVHM, you have to do all the main story missions in TVHM to unlock UVHM.

I find that reaching UVHM and doing the mission to mess up two bandit families, then siding with Jaffords and killing Jimbo and grandpa gives you a lot of EXP.

Basically get out of the train that leads to lynchwood, kill him, go back to main menu and do it again by pressing continue. Decent EXP, fast and you also get to try your luck at getting the Slagga legendary.

You do not have to do any DLC ever but they can be helpful. Once you get to UVHM, good gear becomes more helpful. There are blue uniques that are arguably better than most legendaries in the main game and all the dlcs. Some examples: magic missile from Tina. Slag is more benificial and more necessary in UVHM, and a normal mm slags just as well as one from your level.

I could go on, but bottom line: As a first time UVHM player, worry about keeping your gear in good shape. There are many ways to do this. Trust me, UVHM is where the real game begins.
With good gear, sound tactics, and sound build, UVHM will be fun. Missing any one, you might quit. Example: a no chaos elemental Gaige can rock normal. Not so much on UVHM.

↑ This is :100percent: correct. If it is your first character to reach UVHM, then go to DLC's area and grab some stuff. he mentioned the magic missiles, great slag nades that refill over time (which is just as great as it sounds : you can spam grenades without worrying about your stock), but depending of your class you may want to do other DLCs to grab that or that thing.

If it's not your first character, you may be able to use some of your old stuff, but not all of it (different class, different needs).

So, basically, you do not have to, but you may want to. Also, he said the game really begins in UVHM, I'd say it really begins once you reach level 72, with overpower. Because you are stronger than ever, the game is harder than ever... This is awesome.
