However, a majority of the pearls either suck or are niche.
"The loot midgets have 2 main loot pools :
- one containing all the ancient artifacts (Pool_Artifacts_Ancient_All) with a 50% drop rate,
- the legendaries + first set of pearl (Pool_All_LegendaryPlusPearl_MinLevel51) with 15% drop rate.
The second pool contains :
- legendary gear pool (Pool_GunsAndGear_06_Legendary) with a 100 weight
- and the first 8 pearl weapons pool (Pool_Weapons_All_07_Pearl) with a 10 weight.
So if this pool is triggered, then the drop should be legendary gear with a 91% probability or a pearl weapon with a 9% probability.
Some of the items (artifacts and pearls) have minimum level requirements."
Tubbies have the best chances of dropping Pearls if you are playing OP levels:
"The tubbies have also 2 main pools :
- one containing legendaries (Pool_ChubbieUniques) with a 100% drop rate
- one containing the 12 pearlescent weapons (Pool_Lobelia_Pearlescent_Weapons_All) with a variable drop rate
The first pool contains :
- 4 legendary / unique items (WTF, Bunny and CrackedSash), with a 100 weight
- a customization item, with a 100 weight
- all the non vanilla legendary class mods (Pool_ClassMod_Lobelia_All) with a 1600 weight.
So there's 76% chance to get one of the class mod and 5% to get one of the other item.
The second pool is interesting because the drop rate associated (Weight_Lobelia_Pearlescent_Tubbies) depends on the op level :
- op0 and below : 1.00%
- op1 : 1.49%
- op2 : 2.17%
- op3 : 3.12%
- op4 : 4.54%
- op5 : 6.66%
- op6 : 9.09%
- op7 : 14.28%
- op8 : 20.00%
Some of the items (class mods and pearls) have minimum level requirements."

Good info.
Yes, that's right, I totally forgot about OMGWTH.
You must have overlooked it then. He's guaranteed to drop a gen1 pearl at OP8 and I never had a run without one.
Same here. Too bad he only drops gen1 pearls or he would be the "easy" way to get a bekah. The butcher is nice, tho.
Its not RNG. He is mistaken about what OP run he is doing, something is wrong with his game (unlikely), or he is overlooking the dropped pearl. RNG does not apply when the game's coding assigns a 100% chance of a gen 1 pearl. I have done quite a few OP8 runs and have always had a gen 1 drop.

Reread my more current comment #11 more carefully - it qualified & fleshed out the point made in my original comment #10 which was ironically the same as your's namely that "you will surely get a 1st gen pearl in time. I guarantee it." For yr convenience the qualifier concerned the frequently overlooked mechanical issue ... "OP we're taking your statement at face value trying to be helpful - LC maybe implying a nasty fact about BL2's "drops into the snow" such as OMGWTH's namely that they can tend to disappear somewhat or all the way into the snow and become even more difficult to locate than normal ground condition drops." As you can see, you & I have no differences on this.
Personally, I have never had difficulty finding the pearl, and that is a fairly large sample, so I did not even allow for this possibility. If you say so (no sarcasm).
