How to give Claptrap high five?

Well, there's achievement for that.
I passed the game multiple times and was even offered the option to "give Claptrap hgh-five" at some point in campaign, but apparently it didn't work. Any tips?

Are you playing Maya and speced in Scorn?

You'll get the option to high five Claptrap at various points in the game. Do not be alarmed if the option doesn't show up for you as you may need to complete more of the story missions first. Rest assured that at the end of the game, the option to high five Claptrap is always available.

To perform the high five, select the option to high five then melee Claptrap when his hand (metal claw?) is raised.

when he says give me a high five just mellee towards his hand and it considers it a high five it acts weird if you have any abilities tied to the mellee function
