You're the only player character.
Because the plot exists. Not even Jack does, and he even acknowledges that you respawn in the "Kill Yourself" sidequest when he started laughing his face off at you jumping off a cliff.

New-U stations are not canon, they are just game play mechanic to help the player.

So, only players use them, they don't exist for anyone else and as far as I know are not even talked about by any other than the one time on a side mission where they are not actually named but implied sorta.

436 hours of Borderlands 1. Tell me, what is the FIRST thing you do in Borderlands 1?

You register in a New U station. And Claptrap acknowleges that, even saying that it will respawn you.

Before you say Anthony Burch said that they're not canon, remember that he messed up in some big-time ways and is no longer affiliated with the Borderlands franchise as such.

Well I remember new-u stations are hyperion right? not anyone in bl1 that u care about dies that would respawn if I remember correctly. And the atlas people wouldn't respawn cuz they're competitors. Excuse me if I'm wrong

By that same logic, shouldn't the player be incapable of respawning as they are fighting against Hyperion?

Do you know what Claptrap was, a damn tutorial smart butt. He was explaining game mechanics to you. If New-U was canon, pray tell, why did no one else re spawn at one other than players? New-U has never been anything other than a game play mechanic for the players.

Also, explain why Mr Tassiter did not re spawn, right, not canon and only for players.

Well in BL1 you're being manipulated into helping them so they want you to live. As far as BL2 same thing UP UNTIL angel betrays you . Then idk from thereon. Maybe he wants you alive because he wants revenge from you killing angel and thinks he can easily beat you with the warrior? . I got nothin else than that

Jack coulda disabled it

But yeah kinda starting to agree with you. This wasn't meant to be a save and if u die reload game. Thus new u stations.

Or.... It's just something for player characters since games tend to have mechanics?

Yes, the exact reason he himself said he left you for dead.

"Hey, kiddo. Jack here -- president of Hyperion. Lemme explain how things work here: Vault Hunter shows up. Vault hunter looks for the new vault. Vault Hunter gets killed. By me. Seeing the problem here? You're still alive. So, if you could just do me a favor and off yourself, that’d be great. Thanks, pumpkin."

"(munching on pretzels) So, how’s your day been, buddy? We haven’t really talked much since I left you for dead. Hey, you think you’ll freeze to death out there? Nah, probably not. The bandits’ll get you first. (beat.) My day? It's been pretty good. I just bought a pony made of diamonds, because I’m rich. So, you know. That’s cool. (beat.) Kay, bye"

Edit: Also, there is this, about being, tricked.
"You know, I think it’s finally time to tell you that little secret.
Angel's working for me. "
Tricked in BL2 as well.
