Enemies have health regen shields etc and are a lot harder to deal with. Rushing in will not work too well, and if that is your basic tactic I would suggest trying something different.
DeathTrap is a distraction in UVHM. not a killing machine. Use accordingly.

The simplest and most effective way to play Gaige is to get Anarchy to 300+ stacks and use shotguns and rocket launchers.
Gaige also can make good use out of Nova shields. This is especially true with Sharing is Caring. I like to use Shock nova shields since it will knock shields off of the enemies. The other thing is that if the Nova blast kills an enemy and you have 5/5 in Blood soaked shields, it will replenish the shield for 5% of your health. 5% of your health is a blink of an eye in UVHM. I don't worry about it.
Most of Deathtraps skills are poor or even countrer productive in UVHM. The only ones that I find useful are Robot Rampage and Upshot Robot. Buck up can be used to glitch Gaiges shield so that you can power through an area. Without using the glitch, I find Buck up as being counter productive also.
As far as Grenade mods, I like to use longbow or lobbed slag transfusions. If you are using a Moxxi weapon for healing, then just about any grenade mod will work.
BFF tree.
First of all, Close Enough. Fundamental Gaige skill. Max this out.
The Better Half - very good skill to have which results in higher DpS.
Made of Sterner Stuff. Maxed out, this gives you a whole 5% damage reduction. For 5 points, that really is less than impressive. This skill is a waste of points - see Close Enough - a much better place for them.
Potent as a Pony - not one of the better skills really.
The rest of the tree down to Caring is Sharing no problems. If you can find a good nova shield DT can turn into a very effective weapon. Flame of the Firehawk, Black Hole etc.
OC tree.
Anarchy that is controllable is what you should be aiming for here. That means getting down to Discord. Whatever you do, avoid Death From Above, which is possibly the worst skill in all of the characters.
LBT tree.
Shock Gaige builds can work reasonably well in the early game stages, but really not that well in late game. With all of my Gaiges, nothing gets put in this tree until the other two are pretty much completed, so level 50 or so.
At 55, this is the sort of build I would have. I don't particulary like Blood Soaked Shields - I prefer to use fast shields. Anarchy stacks are limited to 350 - I don't like the accuracy loss when it gets above this.

There are different ways of playing Gaige, depending on your playstyle, gear etc. The above build works.
Shotguns: Just about anything. Bandit and Tediore are probably the worst choices but some of the Uniques can be pretty good. Hyperian shotguns can work well with high levels of anarchy since the pattern will tighten up with sustained fire. Torgue are decent just because they have high damage but tend to have low fire rate and slow reload times. Jakobs are probably the best fit with non uniques with Gaige becuase they can do high damage and have faster reloads and firing than a Torgue.
SMG: Hyperian SMGs are pretty decent because of the reverse recoil and improved accuracy as you fire. Hyperian plasma casters are really good as well as some of the uniques. You may want to go at a lower anarchy level like 150 - 200 in order to land clean body shots and crits.
Assault Rifles: The only one that I have found useful with Gaige are the e-tech Vladof Blasters. The Dahl Blasters are similiar since they both have a naturally richochet bullet. You take a 50% reduction in damage with Close Enough, but I think it is worth it because you should be able to land close to 100% of the shots even at 400 stacks of Anarchy which does significant damage. These are ammo eaters but they do kill stuff in a hurry.
Sniper Rifles: The general rule of thumb is to not use them. I would not use them at Anarchy levels over 150 for the most part. I am on my 2nd full Gaige playthrough and am using only sniper rifles. There are a few snipers that she can get some decent use from such as just about any Maliwan. Slag Maliwans are some of the best slagging weapons in the game and with close enough, the Nth degree, along with splash damage you can slag multiple enemies at once.
Rocket Launchers: Just about any e-tech launcher. Just about every company makes decent launchers. Tediore are decent if you can hit with the reloads otherwise they are sub par. Vladof and Bandit launchers are the best non uniques in the game. Maliwan and Torgue are decent too, I just feel they don't have quite the kick that the other launchers do.
Pistols: Don't use an Infinity, Darts, or Spikers(Flynt's Tinderbox might be the exception). I can't say that I have used a lot of pistols with Gaige other than the ricochet fibber. I would lean towards Vladof and Jakobs though. Even though the Hyperian has the reverse recoil, I dislike their low fire rate. Bandit pistols in some cases would be the worst choice unless you are already have full 400 stacks of anarchy and also have skills like the Better Half which will increase their DPS because of the large magazine size. Even OP guns like the Harold are not really great with Gaige when she has max Anarchy. You are better off backing down the level of Anarchy with discord to a point where you have some control of where the shots are going.

Gaige UVHM Top Gear https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/guide-top-gear-for-gaige-revamped-wip/1219957
I recently took my Maya into UVHM and everything was a pain up until ~lvl 60 when I started to get some good gear (weapons that actually do damage, like a sniper with 80k dmg compared to 24-30k lvl 54-59 ones I found so far in game - which is a huge increase and can actually OHK a non shielded non slagged normal bandit, or OHK a badass slagged through shield with a headshot).
Slag is everything, without it everything is a regening bullet soak and you simply can't spend 40s-1min to kill 1 target in a fight with a group. Slag and you can kill in couple seconds (or instant if you hit crit points).
Never rush into areas, always take small steps and observe your surroundings, make a note of where spawns can happen, where is available cover, and always try to not get cornered, you will die fast if this happens.
Use grenades for slag / singularity, their damage on non slagged enemies is minuscule. Melee enemies that rush you are very very dangerous and should be prioritized above anything else (as you can take cover from most fire while dealing with the melee thingies).
If you get surprised by a spawn, never hurts to run a distance back (in zig-zag if possible and/or using terrain to hide) this makes most enemies to drop aggro so that you can identify the composition of the spawn, mark your priority targets and their positions etc.
Spend your money on new gear every level up pretty much whenever you can get a boost in damage or defense / stats / skills, playing the slot machines and getting some blues is also very nice. Money are there for you to spend (so that you don't do blue / unique / rare sidequests to get an upgrade when you're leveling).
Hope this helps!
