In fact it's almost impossible alone :I
One thing that we never did, was just barely damage varkids, don't damage pods, damage verkid, don't damage pods, etc. Then we got him using that method.
Try that, I never got him to spawn alone, or even with 3 people.
I actually JUST took a screenshot of the spawn rates for you, check it out.

EDIT!
As well as this, time out the time between you damaging, if it does not evolve in a certain time, it will not evolve. Also took a screenshot.

EDIT #2!

If the numbers in this article are correct, going from any larval varkid to Vermi the chance is 1.6% with 4 players. There are a lot of varkids usually so the chances are better, but still on the low side.

Good luck in your hunt.
Borderlands 2 Difficulty Slider. I think its from....willowtree shrubbery?
No, don't not even once.
It changes the player value # in memory after you have spawned into the map, up to 4, which is the game's limit. You spawn into the map, alt-tab to desktop, run the slider app, scan, and set the slider to 4. If you are expecting real people to join, you set it one down for every actual guest expected. The game will be in 4 player mode, if you set it to that, and Vermi's spawn rate will be raised accordingly, as will enemy numbers and health. The change only lasts until you save/quit.
I have solo farmed Vermi tons, mostly at OP8 and have gotten her to spawn many, many times. Caustic Caverns is the best place because there is an ammo machine nearby, and crystalisks to fight the bugs, so they fight you less.
