Seraph crystals are used to buy seraph weapons etc from the seraph vendors. 120 for each gun / shield, irrespective of levels.
Seraph crystals are dropped by the seraph bosses, Pyro Pete, Hyperious etc, only in UVHM. You do not get seraph crystals as a mission reward. Each kill results in crystals being dropped by the boss, between 8 and up to 20, depending on boss, and the game RNG. The only other way to get crystals in any playthrough, is from the Flamerock Refuge slot machines. These cost 2 eridium a pull, and if you are very lucky, will pay out 3 crystals. Trying to get sufficient crystals this way is insane. It will cost you a huge amount of eridium. That said, 3 crystals will at least let you look at what each of the seraph vendors offer. Each one is different, and the items are somewhat different between playthroughs. Certain guns are available in Normal and TVHM, but are not in UVHM. The Ahab, Hawk Eye and Interfacer etc can be bought in these playthroughs, but will only drop from the raid bosses in UVHM.
You can earn the crystals in UVHM and go to any playthrough and buy guns there, and then give them to a lower level character if you want to.
When you get to UVHM, start the various DLC's as soon as you can - I get to Sanctuary and then start. Get to the point you can farm the bosses, kill them lots of times, pick up pink crystals and buy seraph items.
Pyro Pete is the easiest of the bosses, followed by Hyperius. Gee is just ridiculously annoying unless you figure out the gate crush method. Voracidous and the Ancient dragons are just a complete pain and you have to be nuts to consider farming them for crystals.
the only reason why players might farm Voracidous or the Ancient Dragons, is either the Jakobs Hawkeye, the Hyperion Interfacer shotgun, and of course, the Blockade shield. but yeah, I understand why most tend to farm Pete and Hyperius (though the gate crush on Gee can be pretty hilarious if pulled off correctly)
