lady finger
the torgue pistol everyone uses
the bee
This can get you as many weapons around level 30 as your want before the fight.
You don't mention your class, so it's hard to give specific recommendations for gear.
For instance, the infinity pistol works for Zero believe it or not, especially if you are farming the Warrior. The lack of need for ammo is nice.
Strategy-wise, one place you may wish to fight from is near one of the regenerating ammo crates. After exiting the elevator and passing the vending machines, jump down to the Warrior's lair. Continue straight along the elevated walkway to its end. When you jump down, the Warrior will spawn.
Now head to the left and follow the pathway that leads to a semi-covered spot with a replenishing ammo crate at its end. That spot protects you from rakks and from most of the Warrior's attacks. The ammo crate can be used to of course replenish your stock should you need.
The main thing you need to stay on top of are the crystalisks that spawn just outside of this sheltered spot, say every 30 seconds or so. Stay under the archway cover, take them down when they appear (they are your priority), then focus on the Warrior.
Remember that with the Warrior, its weak spots are its mouth, but even better is its chest and just behind its armpits. Do enough damage to an armour plate there and you break it, allowing higher damage to be done by focusing on its wound.
When too much damage has been received the Warrior will jump back into the lava (raising its level) to heal its armour; this is typically when the crystallisks appear. When the Warrior reappears, the lava level drops and....rinse and repeat.

Bee or Sham for a sheild
As [OMEGA]ShatterPoint indicated, the Warrior is resistant to fire damage - he jumps in the lava to heal.
The spot you describe, while viable, is far from invulnerable. You are unprotected from rakks, crystalisks from a distance that often can't be killed without leaving your spot, and from the Warrior's throw attacks. Having tried both, the spot I described is a better choice. Try it.
