One strategy that I've fallen back on if having trouble with him is to fight him from the tunnel leading to the pool area. While he's on the walkway over the pool, you can actually slag/snipe him from there while reducing your own exposure.
Get acquainted with his firing pattern (how many shots he can take and how long it takes him to reload). You can then pick your spots to fire at him while he reloads.
You don't mention your level nor your toon, so I can't provide other suggestions. A good shock weapon like the Thunderball Fists helps to take his shield down.
You can see his full description on the Wiki.
Funny.
Says the guy who apparently has over 1000 inventory slots and 300 funds to drop.
I'll bet that there are a lot of areas in this game that you haven't seen. You should try playing it sometime, it's a wonderful game.
I might suggest using your turrets to take Mike's attention away from you while you run back to the tunnel to snipe/shoot at him from a distance. By doing so, you can still see him on the walkway but you can reduce your exposure. Cover is important in this game.
When there, I usually focus on taking down his remaining henchmen first as they are easier to kill and will otherwise kill you if you focus on Mike.
Explosive weapons or using a rapid fire, hard-hitting gun such as an AR can help you soften him up and perhaps throw him off guard so that he lifts his shield. At that point you can switch to a fire gun if you have one to pummel his body.
Is your gear at your level? This game is about leveling and looting, so always check every locker, box, machine, garbage pile, bullymong and rakk pile for better weapons and gear. Or use a key at the chest in Sanctuary. In the first two playthroughs, the gear from this chest can be very helpful.
Great to hear!
How did you do it?
Get better at using your turrets both defensively and offensively and just wait when you can spec into Longbow, Mag Lock, and Gemini. Turrets are extra fun then. Action is a great toon.
