Apart from that there is no need to let him level up. He can drop the Ogre at any stage. Usually he doesn't, but can.
The badass round sucks, all things considered. The only way to get an Ogre though.
Constant movement is key in the Badass. Avoid being surrounded or cornered. Prioritize archers and dwarves with guns, unless they are far off and you can use cover. The fire archers are the worst, and must be dealt with promptly or you are done. You can kite everything else while you run big circuits of the map, killing archers when able. Skeleton Mages can be igored if you keep your distance, keep moving and use cover. Save them for last. They are much easier when they are the only enemies left. Your Casual Sworsplosion will stun them with a direct hit, giving you time to follow up. Use the damage shrine whenever it's available. Keep your distance from wizards, necromancers, mages etc, using cover and your sentry to take them on one at a time. Once slagged, your harold, or Swordy will destroy them quickly enough. In general, you can only stand and fight for 5 - 10 seconds before you will be crossfired, surrounded or otherwise exterminated. Run, fight, then run a bit more.
This is perhaps my favorite thing in the game because it is one of the least formulaic portions of the game. So many of the raids are just about having certain gear, a certain build, and executing a series of button mashing in the correct way. The Badass requires, movement and timing, informed by good improvisational tactics. There is no formula to mastering it. You must practice it and be able to prioritize enemies, and execute a many maneuvers for a long time, without too many mistakes. Even becoming familiar with the idiotic arena is a requirement for success. A sign that you are beginning to get it, is that you mostly die to spike pits, instead of enemies.
I have attempted the Badass somewhere over a 100 times at OP8, and my success is somewhere around 20 - 30%. There is much room for improvement, and FPS basics will better my success rate, not some sequence of movements, while weilding a certain specific kit.
You're nearly there. Just keep doing it and you get a feel for when you can turn and fight while backpedaling, and when you have to turn tail and buy yourself some time. Also kill skills are good here, as you are constantly killing stuff.
No need to suicide. The mission is repeatable. You can reaccept it from Murderlin without even save/quit/continuing.
