Oh my god this is so cringe
Over 9000? 1337? Constant ♥♥♥♥♥♥ references to ancient memes? This is almost too much. This actually makes the game worse for me. It sucked all the fun out of the game.

The humour is awesome!

I found the humor to be hit or miss, but overall enjoyable. They don't dwell on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jokes or repeat them, so even when you get a few misses in a row, it isn't a problem.

I have played the game for the first time yesterday and the reference where devs made jokes about their game in their game I didin't cared for that much, especially not in the beginning of the game where the game still has to create an immersion and atmosphere. I really don't care if the devs have been sued and stuff so I don't know why they are telling me about it in their game except for their own ego's. Other than that the game has been fun so far and I enjoy it a lot.

I know right? Like even if you're going for a narmy Scary Movie style, you still have to tell a compelling story that the player (hopefully) wants to play through. And I say that enjoying the game so far.

Imagine if instead of the heavy-handed DBZ aping in the first chapter, you instead had our resident Dark Elf revelling in their newfound abilities while the npcs commented on her seemingly unfathomable level of power - and then maybe the possibly-genre-astute Evil notices her attack power is over 9000. That would have warranted a sinister giggle.

edit:
Ironically, the Devs are more likely to be sued over the overt DBZ and Warcraft references than anything Dungeon Keeper-ery. Who even holds the rights to DK these days?

EA have publishing rights for Dungeon Keeper. They re-released it on GOG and Origin so it is still on sale
Dude, it has the graphics of Warcraft 3 and a narrator who is literally channelling the guy from Bards Tale. The Ultimate Evil is renamed into Whatever-Is-Context-Appropriate Evil and the entire game just rips the piss out of every real time strategy trope ever made.

Were you seriously expecting high drama from a game like this?

FYI the funniest bit I've come across so far is absolutely the cutscene where they talk about the heroes hiding behind walls and they just keep stacking ♥♥♥♥ in front of that wall. I love tacky visual humour.

Oh and summoning bears. Evil bears. The narrator is a bellend DM.

Euugh. No wonder they called out potential sue-ery.

If you want to witness true narrator cringe, give Universim a try. That game has lots of promise but even after years of player feedback, the devs are determined that the narrator be a juvenile, snarky arsehole, whose puerile sense of humor is so bad (badly written, more like), it's just agonizing listen to and the constant dread knowing that yet more snarky stupid comments are on the horizon makes it all the worse.

This game is silly in its humor, sure, but it's so well done in comparison that in this case it's just a matter of you not liking it due to personal preference.

The fun of this game IS the humor. It's like an over-the-top Overlord. I don't care how old the memes/jokes are. They've got the Narrator from the Stanley Parable, ffs (props to the devs for that, I love the man). Once you hear that voice, you know the game is not going to be serious in any way.

IMO the game would be better without that narrator and instead having like a proper game naritive. It brakes the immersion to constantly have to hear that the game is just a game and the story has no meaning, but at least the gameplay and visuals are nice.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The game wouldn't be nearly as good. This would be one of those discussions where we'll have to agree to disagree on the point.

But, in the interest of sharing knowledge: You do realize you can dial the narrator back in the options, right?

It's not just the narrator, but also the dark elf convo's with her father that constantly points out that it is just a game and the story has no meaning.

No they are not, because every time Dungeon 3 references or overtly copies stuff from other games, it's done in a parody fashion. And there are very strong laws to protect parody.

It's the same exact reason why people like Weird Al Yankovic are legally able to parody any song they want to, and even use the exact same music as in the real original song, and legally speaking, the parodists don't need the owner of the original song's permission to do that. Weird Al in particular does happen to ask for permission anyway, but legally, he doesn't need to.

And many other parody song writers don't ask for permission, and they can't get sued.

The same laws also apply to TV, films, video games, etc. It's also the same reason politicians can't sue comedians on SNL for disparaging them, which could be done if they didn't have the parody protection (in which cases the comedians would be open to lawsuits against them for slander or libel or defamation).

It's also the same reason why the Game of Thrones creators did nothing but bark when Trump used their font to publish this poster:
https://cdn.japantimes.2xx.jp/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/f-trumpgot-a-20181104.jpg

They complained to the media about how Trump has to stop using their IP, but that was just hot air meant to mislead the public. Because they knew full-well that the image was protected under parody law, and therefore they couldn't actually do anything about it at all, legally speaking...which is exactly why they never even tried to. If they actually had any power to do anything about it legally, then they would have filed a lawsuit about it.
