Primaris Intercessors kinda lacking?
They have the same armament as regular tac marines, one less model, and more health. So are they just a tankier tactical with less damage? Given how combat works I the more damage backed by an apothecary seems better to me.

Yeahhh they look awesome and in theory should be, but once you launch the tactical doctrine, the default boys just blow them away in damage.

They have 1 more armor piercing but otherwise yes they are just tacticals with 1 less model, but more health.

So are they more optimal overall or not?

And they don't even get melta bombs

Wut?! So I guess Primaris infantry are worse?
well, its kind of comical that the Primaris Infantery get shaftet so hard from the fact that the Gladius devs done there Balancing by modell number and not like the TT by cost. but hey, they are by far not the first victims of that....

They're honestly worse

The Primaris ATV however, pure chef's kiss

They are technically stronger than tacs, but not worth the increased cost or research.

What's so good about the ATVs?

Deals a lot of anti-infantry damage, honestly just a better land-speeder all together

I see. I don't build land speeders in general, but I will take a look.
I like the Intercessors, survivability also in midgame is something I appreciate. What I don´t like is the opportunity cost, there is more important research....

The cost, Tacticals vs Intercessors is the same (minus the research step). The difference is that if you plan to research Intercessors, its probably not worth researching any sort of Tacticals-only upgrade. Depending on your plans, you may want to skip Melta Charges as well, especially if you plan to go Primaris-only.

That also seems to be a general trend with Primaris units in Gladius: A fair number of them, are "Alternative to (Unit)/associated research"
- Intercessors replace Tacticals (and arguably Scouts, instead using Scout Bikers for your recon)

- Invader ATVs replace Scout bikes in durability, and Land Speeders for Anti-infantry

- The Storm Speeder Thunderstrike is... well that one's interesting, but basically its a cross between a Land Speeder (its a skimmer,, not as fast, but one model, with decent HP/armor), a Hunter tank (Icarus Rocket Pod + Multiple additional weapons), and a Predator tank. (Las-talon and Stormfury Missiles pack quite a punch, and Thunderstrike trait helps with any clean up)

- The Aggressors and Hellblasters, I'm trying to find a suitable use for them still... If you want to focus on Infantry spam, there's probably a place for them, but they hit at a point when factions are getting stuff online that helps clear Infantry without Damage Reduction.

Hellblasters arguably replace Devastators (the plasma incinerators are more universal than the Devastators 3 Lascannons), but that Range 3 on the Lascannons still make them suitable for sieges and anti-vehicle until you can start producing High Tier units quickly and efficiently. The Aggressors, there's probably space for them in dealing with infantry spam and where ranged damage reduction tiles are very common, but my first playthrough with them left quite a mediocre impression

- Inceptors flat out replace Assault Marines, but arrive rather late. 4 Plasma shots with Blast and the ability to supercharge (Gets hot!) is way better than bolt pistols and chain swords.

-Redemptor Dreadnought, see my previous post on page 1 of this thread. Its an upgrade over the classic Dread, Way more firepower and having both the Macro Plasma Incinerator and an Onslaught Gatling Cannon, + 2x Twin-Linked Storm Bolters + Icarus Rocket Pod + Dreadnought Fist outclasses the classic's single Multi-Melta, Stormbolter, and Fist.

- Repulsor: The Repulsor is interesting in the compare and contrast to a Land Raider. The Land Raider is tougher, but its primary role is getting your Terminators, Centurions, and Hero units to the front lines. The Repulsor arguably does more damage and takes advantage of every researched Weapon AP upgrade save for Melee, and can start being produced a tier earlier, and there is nothing safe from their volley of fire power. Flyers? Get to deal with Icarus weapon platforms. Infantry/bikes/atvs? So many shots from one Repulsor that if by some miracle the unit does survive, it won't be with much HP remaining. Monstrous Creatures, Vehicles, Forts? Heavy Laser Destroyer deals the kind of damage doesn't just get patched up in one turn.

the Invader replaceing scouts bikers is a strange statement. they have not much in common. the invader has no infiltration and no scan. so no options for scouting exept its compareable movement.
total different role if you look deeper. Invader is a Inf Killer that maybe get hit before attacking itself. Scout Bikers are all purpose killers with no modell reduction before attacking and the option for heavy Vehicle/Building dmg on top with Meltabombs.
the Invader is less a Scout and more of a pure dmg unit. it also struggles alot when it must move before attacking, thnx to its main weapon being heavy and counting a as a bike (read: Infantery, what means the heavy weapon debuff takes effect)

One more question:

Does the new Primaris tank make the vehicle-centered approach better now for SM - or is it still the infantry-centered approach with Devastator and Assault Terminators better?
Is the infantry approach really better? devastators just get destroyed in later stages in my experience, you're better off pumping predators for a range 3 attacker with high AP. I've had far more success with that compared to infantry builds
the Primaris Vehicles in general make it easyer for SM to field some real good complementary units for the Inf. the new tank is nice, but missing (guess its a bug/forgotten flag set) its antigrav flag, ignoring it is Antigrav in TT and even hovers with the Antigrav sound in Gladius. it dishes out a moderate volume of extra dmg, butizt hasnt much quality when it comes to taking in dmg. seen 3 focused down in one battle turn, standing near each other (admit the screen was filled with enemys and allies alike).
Inf is still the mainstay i say, the vehicles alone dont get old when not mixed up with Inf in bigger fights.

What about the new Dreadnought then? That seems sturdier than the tank at least?
