Starting Tips I wish I had known
Ok, so I played allot, and learned some things the hard way. here is what I wish I had known/relized at the start.

1st Quests can be impossible. Some quests dump so many enemies on you that they simply ruing your game. I advise untill you are very good, to turn of quests.

2nd Resource Tiles
- Capturing one and turning it your color ONLY gives you the + bonus of the named resource, not the percentage.
- Placing the tile into your City Tiles will give you the + bonus and the + percentage bonus faction wide. (Placing Space Marine fortress next to one supposed to do the same)

3rd This one I wish to clarify, but it seems that general tile bonuses apply only to the tiles production, not the global production.

4th IMPORTAND Every tile you grab with your city will cost 1 Influence to maintain. I did not relize this untill a few games ago, before I always wondered who was eating up my Influence.

5th Loyalty is Super Important, specially on your bigger cities. It can drop or raise your complete production bonuses. Actually dont look at it negative or positive, but keep your loyalty as high as possible in your big cities period.

6th Every city you start gives you a Loyalty Penalty for ALL cities. So if you had a nice large city with a nice production bonus, but then you plop down 3 or 4 smaller cities, bang, the big city may lose a ton of resources unless you counter with loyalty structures.

7th Population. Plan for it. People eat food/ore. So if you have a large unused population you are eating resources but not producting with the people. Same goes otherwise. If you have tons of structures but not enough people, also not good. Try to only add structures as people become availible for them. If you have tons of Influence, then grab tiles before adding structure if need be, otherwise pause the city and let the population catch up.

8th If you have a city that will not always output units, then plan its population with production buildings having the population removed. This way it is more efficient.

9th Wild Live - Turn it to maximum. Better to stay the first turns at your capitol and farm them, It gives great exp, and it also slows down the AI a little bit. makes for a much better game.

10 if you have high loyalty, then plop down a few smaller cities next to resources and choke points. Buld these cities only up to the population you get by default, These cities will add their base resources that each starting city gets, and on choke points you can use them to place the key hexes under the city fortification, giving you a super defensive position.

11. Get flyers as soon as possible. They are the best scouts, and if used correctly can pull the artifacts into your favor as most AI factions dont guard them once they claimed them. Just keep flying them from woods to woods. For some reason flyers get wood conceal bonus. (i think they should change this, no conceal/cover in woods and no claim artifacts for planes)

12. Your FIRST structure should ALWAYS be research. if possible make your second structure also research. These few points will adance you in the scope of the game faster then anything else.

13. Second priority for structures should be a Influence Struture. Most races have tons of stuff they can do with it, and 5 or so points extra at the start will allow you to buy a hero faster, drop a fortress or do other kewl things.

14 Pending on faction, concentrate on one line (inf, hero, tank, ...) initially. This allows you to concentrate in most cases on a key resource, such as food, ore and such.

15. Woods is your friend and worst enemy. Look at choke points, areas around our city and such. Use Woods and ruins to protect and hide your troops, but use your construction units to remove woods/ruins/wire if need be to not allow the enemy to place a high damge ranged unit next to your town, hiding and protecting it.\

16. Dont underestimate your enemy. Had plenty of games where I skirmished and advanced against a faction, and suddenly 10 planes rushed me from a differnt direction, completly wiping out my force in 2 turns. Just because you dont see them does not indicate they are not there.

17. Relics. They are super important. Try your best to capture each one you see, and hold it. Every relic has awesome bonuses. Having more damage, or speed, or hit points or even Influence globally is such a awesome buff. Relics matter.

There are more, but I think that is a good start. Hope some of these tips help, and if you have advise you like to share, please post it below.

May the light of the Emperor guide you

A very useful list of tips. I played this for many hours and still learned something new. Thanks for writing it down. May the Emperor protect you.

Just starting out, thanks for the advice.

Great tips!

One thing I learned today was as a result of me wondering why I could build two things in some hexes and three in others. The reason of course is the presence of ruins or forest in tiles you claim for a city. The deforest button on the city panel is there for a reason. Use it.

Also, I've found it makes a lot more sense to specialize cities. For resources, take into account the tile bonuses and plan your building accordingly. One of the first things I research and build is the building that helps you build others faster. Then build multiples of each recruitment building in separate towns to quickly crank out units when needed.

I do agree. The first resource you need is research, it helps you gain everything faster.
But there are soem structures that you need to get as soon as possible.
Population Expanding Structures
Building of Buildings Structure.
Loyalty Structure

These buildings are important to get as soon as possible, even more important then barracks.

If you spend the first few turns securing your research, population and resources you can later add many more troops, of higher level eaiser. And exploring initially is really not that important. It can wait a few turns.

Wow so not only for that city?! That will make my city building decisions a lot easier next time! I was in the habit of making cities skewed per bonus in their area, but seems that's not needed, nice!

3rd: can confirm.

Very nice post :)

What exactly does sleep/pause do for for production buildings? I turn it on (off?) and did not see any difference.
Emperor Fooble Jul 22, 2018 @ 7:46am
Sleep is so the factories dont bother you with notifications saying they aren't producing anything.

With 3. you mean that city production itself is not pushed or do you mean I only get the % in ore bonus fore ore buildings on THAT hex? I wouild have gotten it very wrong then.

You get the tile % bonuses only for facilities built on that tile.

I wrote down most of this information on the wiki to make it easier to find:

I was testing it myself and it seems that the yellow percentages from special resources only apply to one city, not all.

Hmm, I thought most people decrease the amount of Wild Life?

Not me.

Is tip #2 correct from the original post? That bringing a resource note into a city will give the +% bonus faction wide? I thought it only gave that +% bonus to that city.
Jey Dec 1, 2020 @ 9:19am
No, it's wrong. It's as you say, it only give it to the city that claimed the outpost.
