What does Mana Freeze do and what's it good for?
Mana Freeze: "Lock a Mana Crystal. The next time you would gain Mana, instead unlock a Mana Crystal."
what is a Mana Crystal and is it worth losing Mana over?

Mana crystals are what fill up as you gain mana. Mana freeze in my experience is attached to cards with a value higher than the cost to play the card. So in essence a card that costs 2 mana with a manalock 1 is a 3 cost card. You can play it at two and the third mana is delayed.

as nailbunny said befor, a 1 mana card with a mana freeze of 1 is a 2 mana card, because u gain 1 mana less next time u would get 1 mana.

The main reason mana freeze exists is that some cards have "mana frenzy" (Eg. crystal elf archers), where they get better if you have 6 or more mana. So if you play a 3 mana card + 3 mana freeze at 9 mana then you'll stay in mana frenzy, but if you played a 6 mana card you'd be out of mana frenzy for the time it takes to refill 3 mana.

the ability is mana surge, not mana frenzy. mana frenzy is something very different

Gepettofedora wasn't saying they were the same. Just that mana freeze is used to compliment mana frenzy by offsetting the costs. 😆

Still pain in ass to use, for High Priesstess you need to have 9 mana reserve to use her as an anti-ranged shield unit, and after that it takes forever until you get another unit to support her, and never you can summon a 5 mana unit without losing her power.

Defense chopper, who is an unit of way more HP and usability than the High priesstess, costs the same 5 mana and you can spam units behind him as you like without worrying about it losing its power.

For the few spells, mana freeze works okay though.

I've tried to take your advice and deploy the crystal mage at 9 mana and watch the mana bar freeze. It takes a damn long time before it starts moving again. It's a penalty as far as I can tell. There is no bonus effect later, where it returns the "frozen" mana.

Yes it's a "penality", you pay the mana for the card after you used it.

In reality the Archmage cost 5 mana, but without the "frozen" mana you would have to wait at least a few seconds for her to be in mana surge.

Then it's actually not a penalty if the Archmage costs 5m but the crystals hold the mana bar at 6m when you play at 9m

overall it is a penalty ment to prevent crystal cards to reaching 6 mana and become what they are ment to be: glass cannons.

It's so you can maintain Mana Surge - less immediate cost, more long term cost so you don't yoyo your mana pool

Ooohhh I assumed it was just another faction resource.

That's really cool actually!

Nobody play a 100% elf faction deck. It's too much garbage. But there are some cards that work in every decks and you use them as "normal", you ignore the 6 mana bonus.

come to 2v2, you see it far more then you would belive in rank 10 or higer.
(Aslong as the random team mate has 2 tanks or more in their deck, mono elf works just fine)
