There's way too many issues i find this would create.
You have use ALT + click to use pings to have some sort of communication with your teammate.
You can mute your opponents emojies by clicking the button next to their avatar during a game.
aside from that, im glad there is no text chat in game duals.
That would just bring so much toxicity to games and losers complaiing and winners acting like kucks etc. you get the point
What I would be looking for 'At Minimum' is something more along the lines of 'RANGED Unit Here or [YOUR (Q), (W), (E), (R) Card Here]' (remember you can see your ally's cards). Certain things like this might also make way for simpler teaching in game, not only as dual but also as 'practise lobby' with even YET ANOTHER GAME MODE - The Practise Game Mode (PGM).
In a PGM we might have a strong player and weak player be able to see one another's cards, and we might be able to have various speeds for the game beyond normal speed which are slower and make teaching easier. This way a stronger player (PERSONAL NOTE HERE: The Word Professional is generally a bit wasted and meaningless now - i.e. it is used far too carelessly and that is why I use other defining words), would be able to organise how to teach players of a lower skill bracket in direct and defined terms... this I agree would be far better with voice chat, but if there were some aspects of 'written chat' such as list-making and permanency, then the written form of chat would have it's own place... even in that game mode.
There are ALWAYS in EVERYTHING other options beyond the simple contexts, substances, idea/solutions, etc. that you have been accustomed to. I do want at minimum some form of chat in this game, and I'm right here... right now, attempting to assist in bringing it 'in whatever manner I can' to the game...
To make a simply point bigger or potentially to bring this information to you to help with my point... humans in general don't only communicate better than animals, we are also generally better at planning things too. Some form of chat if it were to be implemented in the game, would be mainly to enhance those capacities. All so that we might assist one another in learning the game better/to a better degree.
Also, one idea about the idea of abuse in chat... I know this would almost inevitably lead to either bans/reports, etc... but the progression is first-off stymied by the situation of the game as a 'relatively' fast-paced and quick win or lose scenario. Secondly if we all start by implementing better manners within ourselves and one-another & also defining the game as a deck builder/strategy game with an 'aura of/about learning' then I think we would be fine.
I'm even imagining as a final thought here on my higher level 'Starcraft II & Dota II Days' wherein which I would be practising my keybindings for Micro- & Macro-Management in the former, or for skill bindings and the like in the latter game. By having specific 'Key-Bound Functions' to the chat, you could spend maybe 3 minutes (a single game to half a game) just practising your key-binds. Simple enough I'd argue and would make your dexterity in whichever game you play far stronger.
Stevie... There are many examples of 'check-boxes' where 'inter-team/-personal chat, can be removed... Thus, emojies would be the only form of communication between teams, and apparently they can be muted.
Also mic chat is almost exactly the same as 'Discord' which was exactly an entire supplementary idea mentioned in my main post. And yes as I have just mentioned above, mic chat is good... but it can be cumbersome in its own way. I'd like variability/versatility in my ability to communicate which can also be made to be direct/focussed.
Thus, inherently I could garner a much better knowledge of my team-mate by his/her responses OR even lack of response to my suggestions/ideas. And truly we wouldn't be slowing the game down, nor regressing its friendly nature in any way...
if after a bad/poor game performance you can both just go your separate ways (hopefully in future a Personalised Mute/Ban List would mean that you'd have either no chance or a decreased chance of playing with that person - i.e. you could match against them but not with them).
I wish there was a "your deck sucks higher mana doesnt equal better" message i could send. Sick of looking at my partners deck seeing all 7-9 cards while im racing to defend against swarms of enemies.
But yes the smallest tit-bits of information to your team-mates can be crucial... whether it's assisting them in the current game or helping them learn/understand your perspective for the next ones. Such a simple concept, don't know why it would be so difficult to implement communications advancements slowly but surely if you were truely worried about the consequences.
In other games you have a death and respawn system so you can chat during your dead time, or the game is turn based, etc... In this game every second has to be spent looking at your screen and evaluating the possibilities of how you can use this or that, so there's just not enough time.
As far as voice chat goes, I feel like it would be a waste of time to implement it. Very few people use voice chat in most games except in Counter-Strike where it's absolutely vital to a successful team.
