If you friend puts that in his folder and boots the game, he can watch it
In anycase, I do think there is a want for something better and easier to use than this for sharing replays with others. For one, there should be the ability to select a replay and instead of immediatelly watching it, getting the option to watch it OR go to the file location and have that specific replay file highlighted for you(StarCraft 2 has this feature and it makes sharing replays stored in a folder much more intuitive). Obviously, it shouldn't be prioritized, however, it would make it much easier to share example replays in a guide etc.
Finally, can I rename these replay file names without breaking them and does the current order of usernames in the replay filenames have any significance? (The ability to rename from within the game would be nice too...)
Windows 10 has a built in recorder if you happen to be using it.
I am using Windows 10. Uninstalled all the Microsoft junkware though. Recorder disabled/uninstalled (No need for it).
You can back them up though, just make sure to do it on wednesdays, since updates usually happen on thursdays.
Regarding the renaming, you can technically do it (as long as you keep the version number in the beginning including the space e.g. "0.6.1 UncleOwnage vs 3FFA..." can be renamed to "0.6.1 The greatest replay in the world", but the name won't change in the game anyway, so it doesn't really help much
I'll admit that's pretty far in the future, so recording it is probably your best bet in saving it for posterity
Well, now you do have a need for it. :P Of course, you can just use a different recorder, but if you're curious, I'm not having any issues with the microsoft one. Just press win + g in game, hit record, press win + g at the end, and hit end.
